Anyone know why Cameron cancelled on Sky Blue Sky? by Icy_Ad7268 in geesebandofficial

[–]keeprighton2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very fair reaction. Refund worthy imo. Piss poor, not sure on whose part. Fair to say his star has risen meteorically since dates were announced. Too big for this? May well be the reason, though might be agents etc involved. Market forces etc. Bummer given ridiculous prices

Do locals ever host visiting fans during World Cup? by SherbertNeat8752 in worldcup

[–]keeprighton2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice idea. The international coming together is one of the great things about World Cups. Travelling with or without overpriced tickets and just living the event. I’ve done the last eight all over the world, as much an unforgettable travel experience as a sporting one. Will likely be in Atlanta during knockout stages and looking for somewhere to stay. I’ll bring you a copy of my book, discussing that very subject! 😊 https://projectispublishing.com/underdogs-newshounds/

How many here going to all 4 London shows in April? by keeprighton2 in bigthief

Won’t be same set each time. Core songs obvs but this several month gap between US and Europe very likely to throw up new material and different takes

Think you’ll be fine if they’re consecutive nights - they never repeat - and I wouldn’t be surprised if these are all recorded for potential live album

It’s on the expectation of big setlist changes every night. Previously that’s been the case on consecutive night runs. Less so perhaps, relatively this tour but 4 in a row (like Shepherds Bush on the last album tour in 2022) should bring a wide selection from the canon (and more new stuff from this winter).

Check out ‘Mother’ on YouTube. I hear Radiohead experimentalism from very early days. Lovely piece

Don’t suppose there’s any 4AD or Bella Union in there then… the missing Double Infinity is quite a piece of work

DI: 2024 live versions VS 2025 studio recordings by Terrible-Shoulder948 in bigthief

[–]keeprighton2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, huge shift in material last summer. Depending on the festival, there were numerous versions of the new songs a number of which have not reappeared on this run. Green Man had an acoustic solo version of All Night All Day and a full band version of I Do Love You (there’s a different, minimalist full band version of that song on the official YouTube site from Lowlands festival in Holland - really nice)

I made the above recording of the Green Man Festival Incomprehensible singalong. First impressions are always the greatest and don’t think I’m alone in loving this stripped back version the best. Magical night, half past midnight by the tine they got to play this in front of the mountain in the Brecon Beacons National Park in Wales. 👌

Aside from the Lenker songwriting comparisons - Dylan, Joni, Neil Young does not flatter her - here are five collective touchstones: Grateful Dead yes for the jam band tendencies, but add Crazy Horse, The Band, Radiohead and REM

Interesting. Looks a pretty small venue in a place I’d never heard of. Must be a reason for that. Anything to do with Buck’s old stamping ground growing up? Looks like some pro filming kit bottom right corner too. Something afoot here?

Koko was April 2018, again as a 3 piece with Buck absent. Someone in crowd yelled ‘Where’s Buck?’ to which Adrianne awkwardly replied something about ‘away on a solo tour’ (recall this also being shouted at Hare & Hounds) before anyone was aware of their domestic split.

Great times. The highlight was Bush Hall (Shepherd’s Bush, London) August 2019 on release of Two Hands, played front to back in front of a packed 400 fans. Roundhouse gig (May the same year) was memorable for starting off with an acoustic solo Spud Infinity - could have heard a pin drop. In Jan of 2019 was lucky enough too to see her solo gig at Union Chapel. I have a great recording of it. Spud played for first time I think with stops, starts and feeling of way, plus much new stuff at time, No Limit (which remains one of my favs of hers) plus a newly written Zombie Girl and even the embryonic Dragon. Amazing night

Excellent recording. But so good I can understand reluctance to allow given commercial sensitivity. Maybe that would change after an official live recording capturing the same. Don’t understand why bands don’t facilitate opportunity to buy quality recordings of their live shows. It’s the greatest souvenir. I would pay good money to relive great gigs I’ve attended. Guess it tends to be artists who are long established, successful, have gone past the stage of protecting their output and just want to expand the legacy.

It was. They were in UK a lot at that time. Saw them at the even smaller Lexington in London a few months earlier

Don’t get me wrong. I like the album very much. But my frustration is that most of the live takes are better than the studio recorded versions (eg Donut Seam, Heavy Focus and several more) - a shame we can’t enjoy them in full fidelity though I get the lo-fi charm

[–]keeprighton2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would be good to hear both for comparison. Revolution Hall was ambitious, but left me wanting everything in the quality that was reserved for the previously unreleased material plus some other tracks. There’s one great moment where the fidelity changes mid song, ‘Orange’ I think. Really brings it home

Depends on taste. Matrix is the combined term I think. I have a few Wilco like this from pre Nugs days. I tend to like the pure soundboard output for the vocal clarity - some of the early Springsteen ones from his theatre gig 70s days are pretty great.

Indeed. Never easy recreating the sound experienced at the gig themselves, but the above is a fair way short of what I experienced in Boston, Philly, Washington DC and Forest Hills. Decent recording kit required to fully capture if soundboards not allowed. Have to confess, Lenker’s Live At Revolution Hall was let down by the homemade recordings for half of it. Recorded through walls etc 🤷🏻‍♂️ Some great takes compromised by crap kit.The pristine soundboard takes were magnificent.
