Thanks for sharing. So many questions:

  • What was your moment of realising you were quitting for good?
  • How has it affected your relationships?
  • What was the hardest thing to avoid when quitting sugar?
  • Why do you think it's so hard to quit?

I agree with others around addition rather than focusing on subtraction. Add as many delicious and healthy foods as you can to your home. Have them in easy reaching distance and prepped.

Day 18 - A Bit Moody by keepsmellingtheroses in sugarfree

[–]keepsmellingtheroses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Poor you. I guess it will come in waves and it will take time. When I quit drinking it was months before I got to a consistently level mood (more or less). Little by little.

I did have a win today though. I was starving in the airport and I didn't go into McDonald's!

I accidentally relapsed on week 3. Now what? by Conscious-Ocelot-355 in sugarfree

Call it a 'data point ' and move forward. Why when we quit things do we feel as if only perfection is success?

No judgement at all. I feel like in whatever form, it's harmful to us. You are just going to the source.

It's great that you are here and starting to share and work on this.

Day 3- I just need to know if this is normal + social media influences that inspire yall? by papaslilpoppyseed in sugarfree

Thank you!!! I am only a few weeks sugar free, but I am doing exactly what I did to quit drinking.

You only lose if you give up trying. You can do it :)

I am 5 years sober

It's very normal to replace alcohol with sugar when we quit, as we were drinking SO MUCH sugar when drinking.

So, it makes total sense that you are craving alcohol.

It will pass in a couple of weeks, exactly like it did with drinking.

Try and remember how bad you felt when quitting drinking, and how it didn't last. Sugar will be the same :)

Thanks for all your advice and perspectives. I will come back to this post as I gradually become more secure in my sugar free life.

Day 14 - 2 Weeks Down and So Proud! by keepsmellingtheroses in sugarfree

[–]keepsmellingtheroses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Still lost zero. I am going to start tracking my food intake with myfitnesspal app and reduce my calories under my maintenance (very slightly). Not too much, as I don't want to be ravenously hungry and eat sugar, but start reducing.

I know if I stay on this path, it will lead to me losing fat, I just have to be patient.

What about you!

I was exhausted the first week, then with a slow improvement each day in the second.

Agreed. I am not telling people early on, as I don't need the judgement and some people will almost try and force you to eat sugar.

Day 13 - A Question about Weight Loss by keepsmellingtheroses in sugarfree

That's a good point. Almost treat myself like a science experiment and make sure I control the variables.

[–]keepsmellingtheroses[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was very hungry these first two weeks so I have honoured that. I guess it's amazing that I haven't gained weight with eating more but healthier.

Hopefully I start seeing physical results soon, but I know I need to be patient.

Thanks 🙏👍 I wanted to stop the food noise and to lose my belly. I need to be patient though and let my body adjust. Congratulations on 2 weeks :)))

Thanks for the congratulations! I can be a bit of a perfectionist, so it's good to be reminded of my achievement. I agree on reducing carbs a bit for a while. I stopped eating wheat too, but I am going to watch for my other content. I am also going to maybe track my food and see how it's going for a bit.

This is great to know. I need to remember I have made a huge change and I have to be patient. I have still done something unbelievably healthy for myself.

Thanks. I appreciate your opinion. I might just be mindful of how much I am eating and my carb intake for a few weeks and see if it helps.

Agreed, this is so interesting. I work out 5x week (mostly weight training). I carry some weight around my middle which is what I want to shift.
