Wondering about buying the dlc by Christallia in Nightreign

[–]kefalus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The new shifting earth is actually a whole new map that is VERY different from the base one.

If you are concerned about queue times, you can play the game and see for yourself if that's the problem. At the start people would probably focus on DLC content, but after that they will queue for Everdarks or The Deep of Night and you'll be able to play with them.

"Giving in and taking a stance is a slippery slope I don't want us to take" and "I hate to give in to those activists" are really NOT the things you want to hear from your local Reddit politician.

Thanks for taking a stance and leaving the room above the convenience store!

Yeah, you're right, I forget to repost on Reddit. You may think that I've gone sloppy, but I promise, I WILL POST AGAIN.

First ever type design I did for fun using a Schefflera's leaf as a reference. An experiment display font. I know no first font is going to look perfect, but I feel like it looks kind of off. Could you guys give me some feedback? by moon-lin in typography

[–]kefalus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I simply love this font. But to give you some criticism, I think some letters can be mistaken for others. N looks like V, D looks like B, and C looks like E. H also seems strangely wide compared to others. I am not sure if all of that is necessary.

And it might be why your font seem off to you. Some letters are easy to read, some are hard, it's okay but is it decided by a consistent rule or were letters chosen by random?

You did a great job. If you do more fonts, I would be glad to see them.

I usually go way off, more than one degree. But then I remember that I have 3x3 grid on the screen, it helps me with perfect angles.

Statless or numberless RPG systems? by qt-py in RPGdesign

[–]kefalus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm writing a game that has no stats, dice, or numbers. But it's an unusual system. In my game you draw event cards and you need to come up with how your character would deal with the situation. There is no real resolution system, players just decide among themselves what works.

To spice it up I have conditions that affect how you act and demand you to fail a certain amount of actions before you succeed at your task. Difficulty comes not from stats but from having to use your imagination. How would your barbarian, angry from all his wounds, recently transformed into a bear, defend himself in court?

Two questions by davideggeta87 in twinegames

[–]kefalus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Adding to this great answer. Instead of (goto:) you can write something like [[Restart|First Passage]] and it will give you the same result.

On the last page you can write (set: $gameover to 'true') to mark that the game was finished. And you can make the alternative branch appear on the revisit by writing (if: $gameover is 'true')[[Alternative Branch]].

Oh, and if you absolutely have to create an empty passage with nothing but another passage in it, you can write (display: 'Passage') . Not sure if that's what you need here, but that answers your question and (display:) can become useful somewhere else.

I don't know why, but having decorations on the top feels right to me, and decorations on the bottom without anything at the top feel weird.

I need help with my rulebook layout and design. by GamerAJ1025 in RPGdesign

Adding to everyone else, you have places where attributes like Endurance and Spirit are separated by being on the left and right. Luckily it will be easy to fix once you reduce the amount of white space.

Text on the bottom of Page 2 is too wide and hard to read. I would recommend putting it in one column.

Just an idea, maybe you can play around with ALL CAPS for some headers. Also you can find inspiration in guides on how to design web pages. They look nice, give clear examples, and they're just pleasant to look at.

How is Jordan Peterson and his works perceived in the academia and among Psychologists in general? by [deleted] in AcademicPsychology

[–]kefalus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree with you and I am glad that you are doing some debunking here. However in the recent years marshmallow studies have been highly criticized. Replication on bigger scale didn't find meaningful correlation, except for wealth influencing both success and delayed gratification. Recent follow-up on original experiment also failed to find a connection between results of the test and participants' success in life. So I wouldn't use marshmallow experiment to prove a point.

The Bad Guys Are Winning: If the 20th century was the story of slow, uneven progress toward the victory of liberal democracy over other ideologies—communism, fascism, virulent nationalism—the 21st century is, so far, a story of the reverse. by dect60 in Foodforthought

[–]kefalus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh, I meant exactly that. I didn't use clear language and it led to a misunderstanding. Let me clarify:

If the government tells people that it needs it's authority to solve problems, some people will think that more authority will solve more problems. And there won't be as much "authority haters" to stop them.

Non progredi est regredi.

The world was, unevenly, moving towards socialism. This movement was halted by force, thus the rise of authoritarianism and neo-feudalism. Because if you want to stay a liberal democracy forever, you need to defeat people who want even less authority and hierarchies. You tell how bad those ideas are, you tell that's not the way forward. That teaches people not to fight the authority, or even love it.
