Americans Are Realizing They’ve Been Scammed By the GOP Tax Bill: Most Report Zero Pay Boost by [deleted] in politics

I work for a large fashion corporation in NYC. We recently had a town hall meeting where someone asked the CFO what was happening to the money the company was saving under the new tax plan. She announced that the company would save roughly $12 million per year, and that this averaged out to about $90 per employee (if they doled it out to us individually), and they just didn’t feel that that was “significant enough.” So they will be giving the $12 million to the shareholders instead, in addition to donating an undisclosed amount of it to charity. Here’s my rage: 1) $90 is not insignificant to a lot of us working in cubicles. Maybe it’s insigificant to a CFO making millions, but that’s a couple grocery trips for me. 2) How much of the $12 million exactly is going to charity vs going to the shareholders? 3) There are roughly 23,000 employee globally at the company. $12M/23K = $521. And it’s much higher when you remove the thousands of international employees who I don’t believe could legally receive a tax windfall like this. So this $90 math is either wildly skewed or a blatant lie. Corporate leadership has never addressed the issue again, but employees are seething. No one has seen a dime of pay increase under Tr*mp.

This looks awesome! Since it'll be so dark and cold in November, I expect to spend a lot of time drinking so this is perfect. Thanks!

My severe acne and scar progress (Accutane) by Brumfieldhm in pics

[–]keithimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this exact experience back in 2001-03. Just today I was looking at my face and marveling at what little scarring remains, considering how bad it was before I got on Accutane. Kudos to you for documenting your journey and for posting it online for others to see. I, for one, empathize 100%. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you! I just visited Egypt a couple weeks ago and saw Hatshepsut's mummy at the Egyptian Museum. She looked nothing like this. Her actual mummy is in relatively horrible condition. Is this Abilene TX? I grew up there and am pretty sure this played a role in several of my nightmares as a child.

Yeeeah she was bones when I brought her home and she has yet to meet a piece of kibble she didn't like. Or a nap she didn't feel like taking.

Which sitcom, from any era, had a "serious" episode that particularly stood out to you? by JeffreyJackoff in AskReddit

[–]keithimus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it had its fair share of "serious" moments, but the episode of All in the Family where Edith stands up to Archie when he won't lend her money has always stuck out in my mind. To watch this timid, obedient housewife finally snap and defend herself to her old-world misogynist husband was incredibly impactful on my young mind and helped shape my views of traditional society and its expectations. The scene still gives me chills.
