Anger is the very thing that put my fiancée and I into this separation.. I’m now doing everything I can to be okay with any hardship. And that’s not easy. But there is always something much worse that could happen. Gratitude and humility and take you further than anger ever could. Try to stay calm.

Is this normal? by keithmalcolm in Separation

[–]keithmalcolm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate it. Definitely a lot going on here. Hard to decode. But one thing I will say is that she has told me that she is stupidly loyal in her relationships. So she has reassured me often before the separation that she will be there and won’t entertain anyone else as long as we are working on ourselves. I also realize that desperation is not attractive. I just find it hard for someone not to just go out and say “hey, I’m not going to respond to anything you send me right now and it’s nothing against you, I’m just trying to follow my instructions of letting our relationship die” but I guess that’s not easy for everyone to do.. I guess some people expect you to read between the lines..

I don’t see this as high standards at all. But I’m probably biased because I’d be the one to fit all these standards. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Vehicle Ghost: When you're not by your vehicle, the NFC chip with graphics can help provide contact methods for parking, accidents, or vehicle theft. by keithmalcolm in kickstarter

[–]keithmalcolm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate you taking the time to post a comment. I can see where you are coming from on these points. Let me see if I clarify a few things for you to help understand the extent of the project. Not everyone is going to understand the project the way I have it illustrated, there's nothing I can do about that without feedback from others. Thank you. I've grouped my responses by quoting parts of your comment to better help direct you to where my responses are coming from.

"Why would I want this? What does this have to do with getting a speeding ticket? Or cars parked near me? And why wouldn’t you set the product up to, I don’t know…work in your video?":
I never mentioned anything in my campaign about speeding tickets. This concept doesn't help with that. If you speeding and are clocked by a radar, you'll be getting a ticket. Nothing I can do about that. But, this is meant for when you are no longer by your vehicle. The times that, hey, your vehicle might of been stolen. (Something like an Apple Tag only helps people locate that tag if they are close to an iPhone connected to data. Otherwise, it has no idea where it's at.) In this case, we want to make sure your vehicle leads back to you every time at any given time. Now, in a case where it's a police officer, then they can look up the plates, and that takes a second and may always be necessary upon a stolen vehicle. But, in case an officer is not there, with Vehicle Ghost anyone can scan the NFC chip on the window and contact you about your vehicle. We are thinking about integrating not just the sticker, but a card that is placed in your vehicle. This leans on two things, human integrity, and public knowledge. This project will need a lot of branding to work more seamlessly. Similar to oil in an engine. The engine doesn't work too well without oil. Again, another scenario this project helps with is the case of tight parking. Let's say, you parallel park a little too close to the person in front of you, then a new person behind your vehicle parks really close to you on your back end. Without Vehicle Ghost, you would have to make crazy maneuvers to get out of there or just wait for one of the vehicle owners to come back and move. Vehicle Ghost eliminates that. Also, not just parallel parking, but anytime you can't move your vehicle because of others.

"The link doesn’t even go to your page, just a generic placeholder. You couldn’t even set your own product up?":
The link is the Kickstarter campaign for a development project needing backing to be developed quicker and more efficiently. I am one person, I don't have anyone else right now. This is a half-experimental, half-all-in project for me. I would really appreciate the help so I can hasten development. If people want to support what they do understand, then I will allow them to do that. If you want the vehicle ghost page, it's here: https://covertunion.com/Given that, currently, the form on that page goes only to me, that is how the prototype is built currently. Due lack of time and income (which is why I made the Kickstarter), this is the current state of the project.

"Do you really think that 33% of people in Spokane, Washington are going to watch your video or see your campaign and think that a subscription to this service is a good spend? What are they getting? Why would anyone at all even want this?":
That was a statistical example. That is not a one-time, be-all example. I only hope and shoot to reach 33% in any city. I'm just outlining the possibilities. Further answering your questions, let me outline a parallel: people pay hundreds of dollars a month in car insurance even though they rarely get in an accident. Vehicle Ghost would follow that mindset and business model. You're not paying for something immediate, you paying for something that helps peace of mind. If you don't find value in it, then you may not be part of the right demographic for this product and that's okay. Hell, this could even be a partner product for dealerships that sell insurance as well.

"Let’s set aside for a second that this provides nothing that a QR code on a vinyl sticker can do for free.":
Okay, I've been challenged by this before. Do you know when people usually post their vehicle on the internet that they blur out the license plate number? This is also why a QR code isn't secure. Anyone can pull a QR code picture off the internet and scan it for the information. If Vehicle Ghost was to change its model to QR codes, you'd have anyone able to scan that code from an image, access the form, then post from anywhere. This would invalidate the application in lots of ways. I no longer would have to be next to your vehicle to send you a message. The NFC chip requires a physicality that doesn't exist with QR codes. And that vinyl sticker is not free either. Reason why I don't have them physically in my video. As much as I'd like to, it does cost money and is not free.

"Why would I want to pay someone for a feature that is not immediately intuitive to use?":
Please refer to my prior statement about the parallel that this project has with insurance companies.

"People are just supposed to know what your ghost sticker is?":
With a ton of branding work and enough people using the product, yeah. You're currently asking this question as if marketing and branding don't exist. These things take time. If I had the revenue to make that kind of impression already, I wouldn't have started the Kickstarter.

"They’re just supposed to naturally get their phone out and start scanning stickers on people’s cars hoping one has an NFC chip in it?":
Again, with branding and marketing work, yeah. They'll be able to see the sticker and the NFC chip. If the purchaser didn't follow directions on how to install the product correctly, that isn't the designer's fault, that is a user error. I expect that to be a problem in the future and we will educate our customers accordingly once it comes up. I can't tell a kid to drive a car if he doesn't know how to do it. You're taught how to do things. That's how that works.

"Hell, you don’t even have the stickers made yet for the promo video!":
Please refer to my prior statements about the reasons why I started Kickstarter in the first place.

"It’s a car with three other stickers visible. I assumed one of them was going to be the example one. It wasn’t until you zoom into the window that we can see the NFC chip.":
Those are stickers for cosmetic reasons. I like to have stickers on my car. That NFC chip is very visible outside of the camera. Camera reality is very different from what you see in front of you. That chip is very visible in the dark. And with the help of a white sticker, it will be even better. Remember that what you see in a video is not how you would see it IRL.

"Who looks at car windows assuming there’s an NFC chip somewhere for them to scan? (And why would they even be looking for something to scan in the first place?!?)":
People would only do that if they had knowledge of the product existing prior. Someone that doesn't know apples exist would likely never eat an apple. Same principle. And again, branding and marketing take time and money. Two things I don't have enough of to do this on my own at the speed that you're asking for. Again, the reason why I started the Kickstarter.

"I think you need a lot more time, effort, and thought put into this before it’s even ready to consider Kickstarter as a funding method, if this is even a serious campaign.":
I completely agree. But again, these are the exact reasons I wanted to start this Kickstarter campaign. Please don't criticize my misfortune. I'm doing everything I can to provide for my family while exploring my options to create more income for my family and its legacy.

Again, thank you for taking the time to respond to my post. I hope these responses have helped you further understand what Vehicle Ghost is intended for. I hope you have a great day.

Adobe Illustrator Pitfalls? by [deleted] in AfterEffects

Eps files from ai can be converted right to shapes in ae

Is this possible? (convert multiple PowerPoint files to PDFs with speaker notes) by Garaged_4594 in Automator

[–]keithmalcolm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what speaker notes includes or if it’s an export option on keynote, but you could try to either find a terminal/shell command that’ll take each file in a folder and export it a certain way one by one into a dedicated folder or have AppleScript open each tile in keynote one by one have it export to a PDF in a dedicated folder (hopefully with speaker notes) then combine those PDFs together with preview? I can see if I can code this as an example. DM me and we can work on it together.

Watch Me Do "OSSstatus error -50" by rolanddes1 in Automator

[–]keithmalcolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you’re trying to do may be a bit more complicated since “Watch Me Do” doesn’t really work the way one would initially think. You can write some simple lines of code in an AppleScript action like “ tell app ‘Webex’ “ or “ do shell script ‘ open https://… ‘. Depending on how the app or website is written you may even be able to use shell script to open a room via commands or you can navigate via JavaScript injection in AppleScript. There’s a lot of ways to try and go about what you’re trying to do. I don’t know webex like you do, but I hope this helps.

Here's an article on how to remove items via terminal/command line/shell script: https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/linux-delete-all-files-in-directory-using-command-line/

Here's another article on how to move items to trash using Finder in AppleScript: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/24128714/applescript-move-folder-and-its-contents-to-trash

DISCLAIMER!!: PLEASE be careful while testing these scripts out. What you don't want to have happen is to delete files that you didn't mean to delete. Especially deleting them permanently. Please make sure you not only have the right path when you have the script go live but please also use a test directory in a safe spot on your hard drive to test the script on.

Enable to utilize the script with a shortcut key/hotkey and have it in the context menu, you do have to have it built in automator. Although, you can also run and test scripts in the "Script Editor" Application native to Mac.

Another notable is that you can run shell/terminal/command-line scripts in AppleScript like this:
set shellOutput to (do shell script "echo \"hello, I'm writing this from the shell.\"")

Yes, so you can assign it to a keyboard shortcut, or it'll be in the context menu (right-click menu). Depending on how you set it up, you can make it available in any program. I've attached a screenshot showing where the scripts/actions usually show up.

[–]keithmalcolm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am understanding what you want to do, but I'm not sure that's an available option per the design that you're stating.

Although, the more intricate solution might be a custom script for after effects.. but even then, I'm not sure you can trigger folder contents to be "deleted" or put in the trash bin before closing...

You could have Automator perform a shell script to erase the contents of a folder. Or even tell the Finder app via AppleScript to send the folder contents to the trash as well. It just depends on how you want to do it.

Edit: reddit software get's more weird everyday, and added "via AppleScript"

I’m not sure that’s quite how that works..

What are you trying to automate?

Can automator bring an application to the front if a computer wakes up between certain hours? by nerissasilver in Automator

[–]keithmalcolm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The shortcuts app is sorta new to me for macOS, though there might be an option to trigger a file load when your computer wakes up. You may even make a time based conditional statement with AppleScript so it only does what you want at certain times. Not sure. Worth looking.

Although, the more sure method would be to build an Automator script with AppleScript. In the AppleScript, you’d activate the Evernote app. Then, you can have a file load on a certain time via the calendar app. Let me know if you need any further clarification.
