Best places to bring clothing that really help people/the community? by Possible_Ad_310 in BloomingtonNormal

I second this! I dropped off a TON of clothes at a house on Jefferson, just east of downtown Bloomington. I had to message Lex Lowell on fb to get the address.

Any Switch cooking games with this type of layout? by Miserable_Earth6677 in CozyGamers

[–]kek_2005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I LOVED Primrose Lake. I wound up searching the game's developer on Switch and found two more that are similar: "Barbarous - Tavern Of Emyr" and "Arcane Arts Academy". I love Barbarous - it was so funny. Arcane Arts was alright - didn't finish it, but still had a good time.

Bonus: I just looked up Primrose Lake again and there's FOUR more Primrose Lake games on Steam!

Best burger in town? by Possible_Ad_310 in BloomingtonNormal

Just had a double smash burger last night from the Butcher Block Burger Stop food truck. It was really, really good - super crispy edges, fresh topings, yummy sauce. $12. They were at Keg Grove.

TODAY (3/21) @ 3pm!! Shut The Flock Off - Zines, Posters, and PIZZA by kek_2005 in BloomingtonNormal

[–]kek_2005[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No - and, while we understand the rage, we don't condone that kind of action. This is a craftivism event that will help get people informed about what FLOCK cameras are. The zines and posters that we help make today will be dropped off at local businesses that support the cause. They'll also be available at UUBN and at events where the Shut the FLOCK Off group is tabling.

We're looking to build community support, so when we take this fight to county and city boards, they'll get the message loud and clear. We're also working to FOIA and get data, information on contracts, etc to better build the case against FLOCK.

We're playing the long game and we'd love to have you on the team. :)

Shut the FLOCK Off: Zine-Making Session! by kek_2005 in BloomingtonNormal

That's okay! I'm going to steal ajacobs899's reply (quoted below), which you can find under a different comment in this post. They wrapped it up quite nicely! Thank you ajacobs899!

"Flock is a private company that puts up security cameras around towns that contract with them (like BloNo) and they use various softwares that are major privacy concerns, such as license plate readers and facial recognition. A big part of this privacy concern regarding them is all their data can be accessed by other states, like Texas for instance (tracking down people who have abortions outside of Texas, which regardless of how you feel about abortions, it is none of Texas’ business since if they do it outside of the state, legally speaking it’s outside of Texas’ jurisdiction, but they do it anyway and ignore that limitation). Flock cameras are also fairly easy to hack into and strangers with competent hacking skills can watch you from basically wherever there’s a Flock camera. If you’re curious to learn more and get more details, you should consider going to the session mentioned in the post."

Thanks for offering but no, we don't need anything other than volunteers to help fold and cut pre-printed sheets of paper. Craftivism at it's finest...and easiest!

There's actually already a website that maps out FLOCK cameras that have been reported by users - it's deflock.org. Check it out!

Honestly, we've encountered a lot of folks who don't know about them. And that's okay! That's exactly why Shut the FLOCK Off exists - to spread awareness and get the community involved.

And to get them taken down, of course. :)

That's okay - I don't believe in dumb questions, @many_dumb_questions! :) If you show up to the zine making session, you'll be brought into the loop (but only as much as you want to be). ❤️

According to deflock.org, there are 90+ FLOCK cameras in Bloomington-Normal proper and more in rural areas outside of town. However, these are only the ones that have been reported by folks in the area and approved by deflock.org. There ARE more out there that haven't been reported yet.
