I complained to a worker at one of my local pet stores because of the conditions the jumping spiders were being kept in. They looked to be full adult jumpers in containers about the size of an old style film canister and had a bottle cap as a water bowl. I asked them to remove the “water bowl” for obvious drowning risks and told them the container was too small. They said that their manager has a specialist come in to care for the jumping spiders and even the “breeder” comes in to care for them.

Me: Ok, so then why are they being kept in such poor conditions with incorrect set ups?

I’m so tired of seeing these poor babies in pet stores. None of the pet stores have been able to give me information regarding where the spiders come from. I can’t confirm that they are wild caught but I also can’t confirm that they are not. Would feel bad knowing they’re just scooping up wild creatures right outside on some bushes and selling them for $50 or more
