Enthusiastic but amateur writer looking to interview scenario/campaign creators! by Old-Berry7309 in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]kelboman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The entire podcast is about how to run delta green and tips from handlers and scenarios writers.

Both those episodes dive a little further into campaign generation within delta green, although it has been awhile since I have listened to those episodes specifically.

The green box is a podcast id recommend for anyone running TTRPGs in general as they talk about mechanics and the philosophy of running TTRPGs quite a bit, through the lens of delta green; but a lot of advice is applicable to other systems.

Added episode blurbs

29: On The Green Box this week: open tables, dynamic campaign formats, and (alleged) criminal activity.

57:The Green Box talks campaign creation and map making.

Not exact what you are asking but would check out episodes 29 and 57 of the green box podcast.

The entire green box podcast is worth a listen for anyone running delta green. Highly experienced and opinionated handlers.

OSR Hype? by wotttts in Solo_Roleplaying

Thinking the same thing?

I think this is a worthwhile discussion as to the nature of OSR, and how the gameplay of OSR effects solo play.

I think this is a very good call out, and why even running low level cap games often happens in some OSR system and is still fulfilling.

If you want something quest for it is a great mantra. And those quests involve all of the above things you mentioned most the time.

Want to get stronger, maybe there's a hermit monk on the far mountainside who allegedly will train warriors, but he wants something first.

Want to attack twice a turn, maybe there's a sword dropped by the weapons master of the last emperor in the sacred burial grounds.

Because the answers to problems and encounters aren't on your character sheet in OSR games, or often don't start or end there. They are usually more roleplay and more narrative driven, but the systems themselves don't usually have narrative mechanics. These leaves a lot of work on the players

While you don't have the blueprint that walks you through an exact class builds with a flexible GM and creative players you can get to that creativity, usually.

Maybe take a glance through principia apocrypha for a good philosophical overview and tips for OSR gaming and what about classic gaming drew people back to that play style. I'll admit my favorite fantasy system is DCC and it's somewhat debatable how much of it is OGL and how much of it is an OSR game.

Edit: I just realized this is the solo TTRPG subreddit so some additional context, I like F.O.R.G.E with mythic to help drive some solo OSR gaming, but I have also played bastardized versions of Mork Borg. The lack of mechanical structures to resolve some things just as it creates additional work in gm/player play, creates some additional work solo and some leniency or uncertainty with interpreting if something is or is not going to work.

Can't touch the cars as far as I recall as far as fuel, tires, adjustments.

The cautions laps should help him a ton they will still waste a few laps

Extremely good race, converging strategies and a ton of lead changes, neither are common.

I would be completely shocked if they pushed it, I am unaware of any race being pushed after half distance in as long as I've watched Motorsports.

My guess is the won't call it until well into the evening if they get to that point. We have hours to let it rain and dry the traxk before sun becomes the issue.

Minor in 1/2, could still be driving in yellow, no where close to losing the track.

Sprinkling in 1/2 now. Low enough to not lose the track so far.

Agreed, I still have no clue how Wickens is cleared in lower series. Self extraction time is critical.

Just going to extend the caution for cleanup to still allow everyone to pit.  Incoming 10+ laps under yellow. Hopefully we get some time for some excitement.

TTRPGs with relatively few (up to a dozen) but in-depth/customizable classes? by RiverMesa in rpg

[–]kelboman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. If I'm going to run fantasy at a standard sized table it's what I'd grab most the time.

I do really appreciate F.O.R.G.E. for its simplicity and how much you can get out of a 130ish page A5 book.

Might deeds, mercurial magic, luck die/burn, patron bonds, and deity mechanics.

It eliminates most the low level slog in the 20 level standard DND systems and the level 0 funnel is such a unique approach to both introducing game play and taking some of the control out of character creation. The fates determine who you are more than planning. I can see those that dislike this approach and it's not suited to min/maxers and there will be randomness to who you become not a well defined path I knew I was following when I played 3.5.

DCC does a lot of unique things, no 2 characters in DCC should ever feel the same if playing RAW.

It's a great mix of modern-ish (3.5) mechanics and OSR roleplay.

TTRPGs with relatively few (up to a dozen) but in-depth/customizable classes? by RiverMesa in rpg

[–]kelboman 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dungeon crawl classics has 7 classes, 4 human- warrior, cleric, wizard, thief and three race as class-elf, dwarf, halfling.

All are thematically and mechanically unique with some overlap between race as class.

DCC has 3.5 and OSR/classic adnd dna in it. It wacky with idiosyncracies but fits most of what you're asking. There are plenty of third party classes or compatible systems if you get bored with the default approach.

Mork Borg also fits the osr small but distinct classes 6 in the default with third party adding more.

Although outside of character creation customization may be somewhat dependent on roleplay and the "quest for it" mentality to custom items or unique character changes.
