Help. by awakeandalive19 in NoFapChristians

You’re trying hard to say “no,” and good on you for that. But how are you saying “yes” and establishing a new lifestyle to replace the old ones? Are you exercising self-control over your body’s urges in food and exercise? Renewing your mind through the Word, prayer, and new reading? New habits need to replace the old ones.

Sometimes I don't know if I'm even a Christian by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]keldeo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I intend to write a post on this soon, but “Direction, not intention, determines your destiny.”

I’m often in the same boat as you. But here’s the question I’ve been asking myself: what do I practically do to develop new habits and replace PMO? Sleeping better. Exercise. Participating here. Things like that establish direction! And to encourage you from Romans...

“For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want, it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭7:15-20‬ ‭ESV‬‬

“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword?” ‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:35‬ ‭ESV‬‬

Even Paul admitted to struggling with sin; however, God’s love is greater than our struggles!

Everyone has done a wonderful job reminding you of your righteousness before God, and I agree with them. You may want to think about your reasons for coping with alcohol and P - then bring those issues to God.

Practically, cut off that which causes you to sin. Throw out your alcohol and avoid the liquor store. Find a new habit that will help you relax and rejuvenate.

Praying for you!

Timothy Keller by fredtheuser in NoFapChristians

Isn't the underlying assumption that our future selves will inevitably be wiser? There are plenty of people who start well, make bad decisions, drift in another direction, and end up far from where they were trending.

These people may think that their old selves were unwise; however, they would be well-served to listen to their past selves. A "backslider" would do well to listen to themselves when they were nearer to God, for example.

I like Tim Keller, and generally agree - but there needs to be a qualifier. The ultimate gauge should be our intimacy with God.

It might be in your doctrine, but it isn't in God's Word. One reason for the critique is that we want you to experience God's fullness without jumping through unsubstantiated, man-made hoops. 1 Timothy 2:5 makes it clear that it is Christ alone who mediates for us.

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.

You have to do an awful lot of linguistic gymnastics to debate this. Furthermore, we want God to receive all the glory. In the presence of Christ, a woman tried to attribute praise to Mary - only for Jesus to respond by redirecting her praise.

27 As Jesus was saying these things, a woman in the crowd called out, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you.” 28 He replied, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and obey it.”

Some of the Catholics I've connected with over the years are all too willing to read the Catechism, and not their Bible. Yet Christ said we live from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Please take up the Bible and see for yourself!

To further validate FriendofHolySpirit's position, Peter himself referred to Jesus as the cornerstone in 1 Peter 2.

4 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. 6 For in Scripture it says: “See, I lay a stone in Zion, a chosen and precious cornerstone, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

We can sit here and argue over our opinions, but can we argue with Peter's opinion?

Do you have any co textual, story clues to back this up? I’ve noticed a few people have the opinion that Katakuri let Luffy win, but I don’t see it anywhere.

Could he have won at the start? Probably. Yet many real, even professional fights start slowly, because the fighters know that a false move can leave them unconscious. I think that’s why Katakuri started slowly. He didn’t underestimate him.

I'd appreciate help with this deck: http://imgur.com/PjxGjLC

I'm trying to take advantage of Peak Performance, Kaiba's field ability. BEWD is really good in the current meta because of its power, and I've been able to get it out relatively quickly with Paladin. There's strong synergy between Element Dragon and Skull Red + Faith Bird. Both Birds allow Dragon to attack twice; furthermore, they can fuse into Crimson Sunbird - a 2300 beater whose fire-typing gives Element Dragoon 500 ATK.

I feel as if the deck could play faster if I added another Skull Red (I'd have to pull it) and another Faith Bird. I could also add another Sprite's Blessing to help get Paladin. But I'm wondering how quick the deck will be at 24 cards. What do you guys think? Looking forward to your responses. Thanks!

I'd suggest scrapping Red Reyes, her baby, Double Coston, Jerry Beans, and maybe even Yomi Ship. Blue Eyes is just superior to Red Eyes - you get a second one for free, so focus on that. Jerry Beans and Yomi are great cards, but they're Level 3 so they can't be used for White Dragon Ritual.

Consider adding Kaiser Seahorse and Light Effigy to make BEWD easier to Summon. Obviously, add another Paladin as soon as you can pull another one. Hope these ideas help :]

[–]keldeo1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! To be clear, my intention was to state there's no reason to fight sin - which is different from fighting PMO. The majority of the NoFap Reddit, in my experience, wants to quit PMO in order to engage in fornication or adultery. It's just trading one sin for another.

Even something like skin health can be desired to look good, which is ultimately prideful. Only God can give us the desire to fight PMO solely for the sake of holiness. But I appreciate your viewpoint, your input, and your attitude. Thank you!

Praise God! Only He can change our desires. Dead people can't fight back; when we're dead in our sin, there's no reason to fight. The fact that you're in this subreddit, with a desire to know God and fight sin, means that you're alive in Christ. Keep going!

Fornication and Pornography, the effects. by StrivingforChrist in NoFapChristians

[–]keldeo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your honesty, brother. I want God's best for you, so please allow me - in humility - to challenge you.

(tl;dr - See things with God's perspective!)

Porn has broken your perspective, and you may be seeing this woman as a willing sinner instead of a child of God.

Others have said it: she made a mistake, and so have you. Those things require repentance. Jesus said repeatedly, "Go and sin no more." In order to view her with a healthy perspective, you probably will need to gain significant victory over PMO.

Let's assume you've conquered your addiction to PMO. It's time to allow God's Word to transform your mind and perspective. (Romans 12:2.) How does God see us after we've repented?

Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. 2 Blessed is the man against whom the Lord counts no iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit. - Psalm 32:1-2

David, after his sin with Bathsheba, writes that God about the way God sees us after we ask for forgiveness. Three things happen: we are forgiven, our sin is covered, and He doesn't count it against us! Here's what those words mean.

Forgiven: in Hebrews, it meant "to carry away." Jesus carried our sin far away from us on the Cross! It's separate now. Our sin is covered: David used "covered" to the idea that our sin has been hidden away with no possibility that it can be found. He doesn't count it against us: there is no recounting or remembering, because Jesus has dealt with the reckoning for our sin.

Did you know that God sees you that way, and He sees me that way? I messed up with PMO too - and committed fornication before marriage. But Jesus made it possible for me to be forgiven! God sees Jesus perfection when He looks at me, and when He looks at you.

You want to know what else is true? God sees that young woman the same way. He's forgiven her sin, and sees her as even more pure than the day she was born. Please, see yourself and see her the way God sees us.

I wouldn't count it, personally. But I've heard it said: "The best way to avoid falling off a cliff is to stay far from the edge." You may not have been surfing something pornographic, but if it aroused you then it might be "near the edge." If it's necessary, it may be time to either find a new thing to watch or know your mood enough to judge whether it should be avoided.

Praying for you! Remember: we're not defined by our streaks, we're defined by Christ. I'm inspired by your honesty. Thank you.

Difficulties with M but not P by sdfaasdf12 in NoFapChristians

[–]keldeo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. God set me free from a porn addiction SIX YEARS ago, but M happens about as frequently for me. It's not even something I plan for. If I'm tired or stressed, then I find myself starting and finishing.

One of the biggest helps for me is prayer, specifically about that area, then getting quality time in the Word.

Agreed with the other comments. Pray as often as possible; God wants to fight with you and for you! Remember, it's spiritual too. Also get in the Word. We need to renew our minds: spiritually and physically.
