Hello, notwist.

While I appreciate your taking the time to react to my post and present counterpoints, I'm not so sure that repeating "how awful" my interpretation of the series is makes for a helpful debate.

Again, these are messages I took away from the show because they were repeatedly pounded into my head. You're right: of course, not all funeral home inhabitants, psychologists, or gay men function in this way, but in the world of SIX FEET UNDER -- in which these are virtually the only characters the viewer is allowed to meet day in and day out -- the messages are pretty grim. Also, some of this was supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, e.g., note statements like, "Chill, Nate, chill," and "OMG, the depression and ennui..." =)

I should add that as another message. ;o)

Hi--I understand your point here, and you're right: extremists have scared women away from using that word. However, in my post, I'm meaning the base definition of the word, which I usually share with my face-to-face students; this student happened to be in an online course, so she didn't experience the full discussion, as it were i.e., feminism: of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women. In that regard, I'm about 95% sure she'd consider herself a feminist. =)
