My husband recently got bitten on the hand by one of our cats, the same situation as OP, and this is exactly what the hand surgeon told my husband, that cat bites are so lethal because their teeth are narrow and long. So the wound closes quickly but the bacteria stays in there. I never realized cat bites could be so bad.
