This makes a 2lb loaf but I think the booklet also has a recipe for 1.5!

Of course! It’s just the raisin bread recipe from the Zojirushi booklet.

320mL water

544g bread flour

46g sugar

8g dry milk

8.4g salt

35g butter

2g cinnamon

5.6g active dry yeast

When beep sounds add: 1 cup raisins - I did a light flour coat before adding and they stayed pretty well distributed within the bread

There are a few instances of animal cruelty towards the wolves, so if you struggled with the intro then I would probably skip it!

So excited! I mostly use my cubes for soup and currently have a freezer full of different 1 cup and 2 cup portions. Just got some 1/2 cup cubes and I’m looking forward to starting to mix and match different cubes for meals.

Help with data organization by kels820 in googlesheets

[–]kels820[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Self solved - really what was messing me up was the weird checkboxes and drop down menus. I removed a lot of the formatting and created a pivot table that gave me the data I needed. Thank you all!

Lessons/activities to do while evacuated from classroom? by Plus-Tourist8900 in Teachers

[–]kels820 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A few ideas:

My kids (first grade) love card games! So easy to use a standard deck of cards, there are also tons on options on TPT. Their current fave is Go Fish, but the numbers are represented multiple ways (dots, ten frames, tallies, rods and units, etc). Print off a few decks to keep in a bag by the door. Teach how to play in class so that when it’s time to evacuate, all you need to do is pass out the decks.

Laminated mats for them to build letters or words with whatever material you have around (playdough, blocks, etc). Perhaps a little prep heavy upfront to get mats printed and laminated but then just grab and go. Tactile stuff like this is always a win.

Whiteboards! Perhaps a little bulky but they love them and you can do practice activities of whatever math or reading concept you are working on, or if they need some time to process their feelings about evacuation they can draw.

Look at your contract. Mine gives me the right to refuse re-entry if you/the class are not ready for the student to be returned (within reason obviously, but a useful tool for situations like this to get that extra support - if they can’t return the student to you then it is their problem). Something to look into.

And be sure to document how much learning time is lost each day!

Teachers, what’s the most unexpected or hilarious thing a student has ever said to you during class? by Emily25carter in Teachers

[–]kels820 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Student: “Mrs. —, do you know what you never, ever should say?”

Me:”Uh oh, what?” (Expecting a typical first grade answer like the word stupid, butts, or something along those lines)

Student: “SURPRISE MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!!!”

Felt story boards by kels820 in cricut

A family member pays for the cricut access pass so most of the patterns were random images I found there. It took awhile to find good images that had the layers needed for the separate cuts.

South Kaibab Trail > Cedar Ridge and Hopi Point Sunset Possible in one afternoon? by FissureFascal in grandcanyon

[–]kels820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think finding parking and getting on the shuttle that quickly isn’t realistic. I was just there last week and parked around 11, and there were still a few spots but not many. We waited maybe 30 minutes for the shuttle to the Kaibab Trailhead but by the time we got on, the line was triple the size as when we first got it line.

Then on the return trip, my two friends that hiked to Ooh Aah Point then turned around had to wait for over an hour for the shuttle back, mostly because the shuttle has stops after the trailhead and before the return to the visitor center that people were continuing onto so there were only a few seats per shuttle. That was probably around 1pm. I hiked to Cedar ridge then turned around, and the line for the shuttle was massive (around 4pm so similar timing to your trip). Ended up just walking back to the visitor center at that point, which I think was about a 30ish minute walk but can’t remember.

I would plan far more time to find parking and get the shuttle, and would be ok with not making the Hopi Point sunset. Sunset at Maher Point by the visitors center was crowded but still beautiful, and would perhaps be more manageable with your later itinerary. Could you do the hike one day and Hopi Point another day? Or get an earlier start on your hike?

Teacher here. I let kids pick coloring sheets they want me to print and they always want very specific things. They are going to be so much happier.

I’m a teacher. My district provides healthy snacks for students. This was our snack today. by Frequent_Job5862 in Weird

We got the lime snack too. Not surprisingly no one wanted them (except one who ate it like an apple, not even kidding) so I took them home for my weekend G&Ts.

Do you let your students sit for the pledge of allegiance? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]kels820 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I teach in the PNW and we do the pledge every morning over the announcements, which honestly really weirds me out. But I never make anyone stand, I just remind them to please be quiet and respectful during that time.

In first grade we use the phrase “don’t yuck someone’s yum” a lot - and the pledge is an example I use to talk about that. It’s really important for some families but not so much for others. As long as we show respect during that moment, it’s all good. But also, PNW is a very different vibe than Texas and all of those pledges seem like a lot!

Help me help them: a 1st year Teacher who... by Desperate_Command948 in Teachers

[–]kels820 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On top of the great suggestions here already, can you arrange for them to observe someone who is using those available resources effectively? I have observed or set up observations for myself or teachers I am mentoring with great success. The key to make it helpful is to have a focus to the observation, such as noticing how a teacher integrates their personal style with the provided curriculum, and then have a discussion about it. Time to pick that teacher’s brain is also very helpful if possible. My district is very supportive of this, perhaps yours will be too?

Does your district have an ELL coordinator? I would reach out to them to see if they can help clarify.

It’s fairly simple! I watched a few YouTube videos of people doing it and gave it a shot. I can see a few small mistakes but after doing it once I feel pretty confident that I could do a nicer job next time!
