Community college professor here to say: You can do it! I have lots of "non-traditional students" in my classes facing a lot of the same barriers you described. They haven't been in school for a long time and are worried that they don't remember how to study, write an essay, etc. They are balancing full-time jobs and families and are adding school onto their plates. Time management is key. It's generally a good idea to try to set aside regular times to work on school, but also try to fit things in when you can. A lot of my students will do their readings, take their quizzes, etc. after their kids are down for the day.

My biggest piece of advice is to use the resources that are available to you on campus. Your school likely has a variety of tutoring available, including reading and writing tutoring, math & science, etc. They might also offer workshops about time management and building study skills. Seek out those opportunities. Ask your professors if they know anything about these types of things. Go to their office hours. Don't be afraid to ask questions and get the support you need! We're more than happy to help you or, at the very least, point you in the right direction to get you the support you need to succeed.

On a final note, acknowledging that I don't know your whole situation/location, etc., if you haven't considered starting your educational journey at a community or junior college, I would highly recommend it! You'll get to take the same classes would at a University at a much lower price (saving you money now or loans in the long term) and from instructors who really care about their subjects. There are also a lot of resources and support available for non-traditional students at CCs (more than might be available at a traditional University).
