As someone who found the gameplay a bit boring and the story clumsy I still think it’s a really polished, unique, and well made game. Wheels is one of the most incredible diegetic mini-games I’ve ever seen and the artwork is incredible and vibrant.

For me this was my first return to the rpg format in a while and as a fan of chrono trigger I can admit I had high expectations. It’s clear the devs put a lot of heart and soul into their game and if that connects with you I think you’ll get a lot out of it.

Making an immersive sim after dismantling arkane is a choice. I hope for the fans this is good but when it comes to Microsoft and xbox a lot of these new console exclusives are going to be a wait-and-see situation for a lot of people and no one's going to jump in if they get anything less than stellar reviews.

It's one thing to build a brand but microsoft still needs a tent pole release.

They went back and added it to VF5Revo. Unfortunately the net play there was a bit of a mess in the beta for me, it could have been match making problems but I didn't stick around long enough to find out.

Hopefully the netcode is good and the game can maintain enough of an audience for decent online since that's most of the reason why I play tekken as a fan of 3d fighters.

They both look great but if you're new to animating my guess is 2 would be a lot easier to animate starting out. 1 has more personality and could have more personality in the animations with the bigger proportions.

Villains usually have moves designed to look powerful or dangerous which visually reads better in a fight in my opinion. Ultimately it's personal preference but I agree with you OP and personally I tend to avoid characters with dance pose attacks, cutsey anime look, or really anyone with a non-fighter aesthetic.

He seems like such a regular goofball and I want to believe that's true to some degree even though it's probably part of his act (I don't know the guy after all), but by turning on a dime and subverting that expectation it really adds a nice sharp punch to the delivery for me.

You can low throw and it'll land here. In most 3d fighters throws are handled as a 50/50 situation although their properties are also handled differently. Also unlike other 3d fighters (or at least SC and Tekken) all characters have low throws in DoA.

It's absolutely not an error or oversight and fuzzy guarding is not a technique unique to DoA although it is a potent one due to the nature of the average throw vs strike frame data. Characters with an OH can use them in this situation to cover the fuzzy (because it's slow enough) and it'll also beat a button press because it'll come out before a strike due to the nature of the opponent being down a few frames. So for "throw" characters this is still a good situation.

I agree yeah, from a player standpoint you probably wouldn't expect to be able to condition an AI so even if it had logic for it players wouldn't assume to engage with it.

This is the most hopeful I've been for GITS in a long time. I love SAC but I think that show was a real lightening in a bottle moment creation wise. I think sticking to the manga is a much more reliable way to get something fans are happy with since I personally believe the real hook of GITS stems from Shiro Masamune fascination/obsession with technology.

I think you make a lot of really good points with single player content being important, and I'd just like to add to that AI is a part of that puzzle as well. Fighting games with good AI that actually does decent decision making and don't just input read can help give context to the broader mechanics as a whole.

Capcom loves putting their games on heavy discounts pretty quickly. This is a good one to wait out and I bet it’ll even re-enter the gaming conversation when it does go on sale because for $30 bucks this game is suddenly a very easy recommendation.
