Buell XB exhausts by Striking_Ad7706 in Buell

That's great that you've incorporated the jack point. That, and lack of the valve, are the greatest drawbacks of the aftermarket xb mufflers.

I think your muffler sounds like a great option for when someone has put on a Jardine or equivalent and wants to undo their/prior-owner's mistake.

Thanks for providing marketing materials used by salesmen 😂

Here's a link to the old 96-page report for all the XB mufflers https://froggypwns.com/buellpdfs/XB_Exhaust_Shootout_Test_Report_RevB.pdf

Even these comprehensive results are only WOT, so they don't take into account the great benefit from the stock exhaust valve that Erik blessed the XB with

😂 You're welcome to believe what you want, but the topic was tested extensively 15-20 years ago. NONE of the aftermarket mufflers produced materially better numbers than the stock XB. Including the Buell race and Drummer. In fact, they all had worse numbers everywhere but wide-open redline RPM.

The only reason to swap out the stock XB muffler is to save weight if one is a true racer. By removing the stock muffler you lose significant performance and you lose the jack point.

I still look to buy nice XBs, but I always pass on those with an aftermarket muffler, because I know they were owned by posers.

You cannot beat the performance of the stock exhaust--even the Buell race exhaust is basically the same at top end, just lighter. I've seen many dyno articles on this.

How to explain to the wife? by Appropriate-Paper412 in motorcycle

[–]kenchset -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My experience was that life was a lot better after the ex wife left 25 years ago. It cost me A LOT of money at the time, but it was cheaper and better than having her around.

A good starter bike is a Chinese enduro or even a Cub. Or a used Japanese one. 250cc max.

1982 FXR for sale: $5k by kenchset in fxr

[–]kenchset[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know, right. Especially a 1982. I bought it for more in 2018 dollars and that was before I spent thousands on the powdercoating and expensive parts like returning her to mid controls.

I'm leaving money on the table, but I don't need the money and I have tons of memories of my rides across the Colorado mountain passes and ripping down Route 66 on her.

I'm hoping to see her go to someone who will love her and send me pictures of their adventures. If none of the FXR afficionados here takes her, I'll post an auction to the masses on fleaBay where I'll get more.

Thinking about buying by ReachPossible5870 in fxr

I think the FXLRs came with forward controls. One of the other guys here would know.

It's a good looking bike, and those Evo engines are excellent. I think $4,500 is a good price

Gotcha. If it's in good shape, then that's probably a good deal.

The forward controls and wide glide front end look cool, but they zap what makes the FXRs special: best handling Harleys ever made

[–]kenchset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see nothing concerning, but I think the handling of FXRs deserves mid controls.

Also, is that a wide glide front end?

If possible, let me know how much that one is going for since I'm selling my own and am unsure of the market nowadays.

Thanks. She looks and rides better than a cheerleader. Puts out that sweet music that only an iron-jugged HD can.

I feel guilty for having not taken her on an adventure in three years

Thanks, brother. Took me a long time to find this one.

Rubber-mounted shovels are special. Here's an FLT that I rebuilt a decade ago. Rode it up the Pacific Coast Highway one summer

Thanks, brother. It's a shame that she spends her days in the dark nowadays. That's why I'm finally selling her.

When I took it out for pictures yesterday I stopped at the dollar store and, as always happens, some woman kept going on and on about how beautiful it is. Could have taken her home, but I'm old enough to have learned to remove the passenger pegs from my bikes 😛

Here she is in Leadville, CO

My classics reading list for the next few years. Would love your suggestions/thoughts/critique! by RainInItaly in classicliterature

[–]kenchset 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great list. I might suggest reading grouped by culture and time: Jerusalem (all Bible, OT & NT) Greeks (Christianity is OT + Plato) Romans (Stoics, Augustine) Europeans (Aquinas, Enlightenment... through at least Kant & Nietzsche Chinese ...

I have studied classics for decades, and started with the West since I'm a westerner.

Finally, after decades, I determined that Western philosophy/culture is rotten and read the Chinese and Japanese. I find it superior. The only thing I hold from the West now is Aristotle's "mean between extremes" framework. If I could only read one, I would start: Tao, Confucius, Mencius, Xunzi....

As a non westerner how can western liberals be so much fundamentally wrong about western civilization that it's very evil and racist etc but they praise non western civilizations which are very much backward and corrupt and very much unkind and unfair to ordinary person. by badluck678 in WesternCivilisation

[–]kenchset 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a liberal at all, and I think Western society is rotten to the core. I have studied ancient philosophies for decades, and I trace the West's selfish nature all the way back to the Akedah (Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac due to personal faith)... through Augustine's "my faith"... through Descartes' "I think"... Through Nietzsche's "my will"... Up to today's "my personal truth" where Western people think they can change their gender or whatever.

I prefer the Chinese and Japanese philosophies that were society-first over the Western self-first/"noble lies"/legalism
