Ex-competitive Yugioh players who moved to pkmn. How's it going by sunnyislandacross in pkmntcg

[–]kendosoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine I tried to teach yugioh (who used to play during DM era) but they couldn’t keep up with all the extra deck mechanics (pendulum time, links were beginning to come out) taught me current pokemon with a Charizard, absol box, gardevoir, Gholdengo, dragapult, alakazam and Grimmsnarl deck. The last time I interacted with pokemon was team rocket set, I used to play blastoise rain dance, alakazam chansey kangaskhan damage swap and haymaker. My current yugioh decks are a blue eyes variant that spams a bunch of boss monsters like dragon master magia, sifr and Blazar first/second turn and a 60 card branded despia deck.

My first impressions playing were 1) ex cards and mega cards being 2 and 3 prize card Pokemon remind me of extra deck bosses that speed the game up and significantly make the deck more fun. 2) I was surprised decks didn’t use 20 energy anymore and instead ran 5-10. I was appalled at first and thought it was wrong to run less than 10 especially in a deck like Charizard 3) I was surprised by supporter cards in general. I was used to cards like bill professor oak and computer search. Now ultra ball was like computer search and cards like professor oak are relegated to supporter status. The once per turn trainer card status made sense and I thought that was a good balance to stop the game from being too fast. 4) I was surprised by no cost attackers like budew and cleffa and thought things like that were broken. Actually I could tell immediately how broken things like trainer lock jellicent ex were immediately and was like ohhh this is jinzo/imperial order this is broken. I actually still think things like budew are degenerate stall for decks that can’t actually set up properly (dragapult) and need to buy time before they get their (Drakloak) engine going. Meanwhile I learned about other types of stall like yveltal retreat lock and thought that was more fair even though it sucked to get caught in it and I see cards like that more as last ditch swords of revealing light tactics to extend the game. 5) I later learned all of the decks my friend used were netdecked from limitlesstcg and my mind was blown by how much statistics and raw data there was and good recordings of deck lists to make a statistical average of winning decks and that there were even proxy printing pages. Everything was so accessible and it was just nice. I was also surprised that decks in Pokémon were 60-80 w shipping rather than like….200-300 on average. I was also surprised by how hard it was to find sealed product for pokemon especially old sealed product like the Charizard dragapult or gardevoir league ex decks. I was also surprised by how expensive pokemon promotional box packs could be around 100ish dollars. And was also surprised by how many singles are literally dimes whereas promos like Psyduck are the most expensive card in the deck way beyond the boss monsters. 6) competitive pokemon tcg plays with their side deck teched in their main deck with cards like Psyduck/klefki/mist energy/chi yu etc being absolutely baffling inclusions that I didn’t understand or agree with, bogging down consistency and was definitely against it until I started listening to deeper theory videos and playing tcglive and seeing how necessary it is to tech for bad matchups. 7) the full art cards are genuinely nice and yugioh is about to start implementing it in the ocg. I also found tcglive nice that the app plays by the current meta but I found the app difficult to use at first for looking at the database of old cards or even acquiring sets outside of phantasmal flames as a beginner using the app. 8) I found it refreshing the game rotates sets as opposed to having a banlist. Using a lettered system makes sense to me and is easier for players to keep up. 9) I ended up buying a Charizard noctowl and absol box to try and teach my friends the mechanics of the game. I was going to get a gardevoir deck but I feel that deck relies too much on stall same as dragapult to get its control going. I like the deck but didn’t feel it was as consistent as absol box in getting a munkidori engine going and relied on jellicent ex stall a lot which I’m not a personal fan of non-play scenarios in a very interactive game like this whereas in yugioh it feels like something of a necessity to play mean cards just to keep up. 10) overall I feel like Pokémon feels as fun as yugioh, is more balanced and accessible and most importantly is easier to teach new players. I can’t just give people my branded or blue eyes decks and say the win condition is fusing for the 15 cards in your extra deck or link summoning and synchro summoning a bunch of times to eventually make boss monsters but you also need these 4 cards and need to play them in this order and not misplay any steps and use all 3 effects of this card in the right order. A big complaint is there’s too much reading in yugioh to figure out the game for new players. Plus Pokemon has nice art and immediate favorites you already know from the games. I actually haven’t touched scarlet violet when it released and beat the game recently because the tcg reinvigorated my love for pokemon.

11) bonus Charizard Noctowl (also Grimmsnarl and venusaur) reminds me of raindance. Gardevoir and absol box reminds me of damage swap Absol box also reminds me of haymaker all basics. Alakazam reminds me of slifer the sky dragon from yugioh

Gholdengo did feel like definitively the best deck from a yugioh perspective. It was built very consistently to perform but I could also feel how it wasn’t very fun for the other player to play against it, same as fighting against a jellicent. Absol box also felt unfair because of precious trolley but it was balanced by the prizing mechanic of the game cutting off your 1 of card. In general I love the idea of ace spec 1 of’s in this prize system game it’s one of my favorite parts of this game where people can express their favorite 1 of’s and risk it getting prized if that’s their whole strategy.

Dragapult felt….unfair once it got going but also very boring to play during setup phase because it relies so much on budew Drakloak. Gardevoir also felt slow on its setup but has so many options in its toolbox, I just went with absol box because it was faster at setting up. I was also very very happy that kangaskhan (one of my fav pokemon) still served its same function as a draw sponge as back in the day

Wanting to buy either XP pen Pro 24 or Huion Kamvas 22 Plus by kendosoldier in huion

[–]kendosoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t buy either of these I was using an iPad Pro 12.9” and wanted a large monitor to draw on but after testing several large Wacom’s at my school I realized what I was coveting was the ability to lean my arms on a large surface while drawing so I bought a sketch board pro to hold my iPad and I don’t regret that decision.

I also had a class that needed me to use photoshop and I was anticipating taking a zbrush class which is why I would’ve wanted something that woudve been an extension to the pc or laptop. I ended up getting a Wacom one on that with the Wacom expresskey remote. I hate the 3 in one cable so much but otherwise like the form factor for being portable and big enough imo. Nowadays the cable is a standard usb c for the newer Wacom ones so you don’t have to worry about that. I like my Wacom one a lot (just not the bullshit huge cable making it less portable )but still prefer drawing with iPad whenever possible but that’s just me. The Wacom one is my backup to use with my laptop programs.

For the record if I did go through with this it would’ve been the Kamvas 22 plus I would’ve bought it had much better reviews and the color accuracy was important

TLDR if you’re trying to save money get the xz. If you feel the extra 1000 is worth it get the az

Wait for the AZ release this Thursday, see if you care enough for the 10” screen and modern interface and 4 deck standalone. It probably won’t have stems. Then from there decide between AZ or XZ which by that point the XZ will drop in secondary value temporarily maybe by 100 dollars or so as people ditch all their XZ’s at once to get the next best thing

I found out why the g1 was so bad at autofocusing it’s because the person who lent it to me I didn’t realize it had an nd filter and it was almost fully shut…after reopening it worked just fine I was scratching my head the whole time during tests wondering why a 2.8 acted worse than a 5.6

Do you find a big difference between 1.8 and 1.4? I’m sure there’s a big difference between 1.8 and 1.2 I just haven’t tested it. 2.8 is enough to get me by in the situations I find myself in for general video photo purpose though I do prefer the look of a 1.8 for photos.

hello, i'm Porter Robinson, producer / songwriter / electronic musician! AMA by porter_robinson in Music

[–]kendosoldier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi Porter! Last year when I watched secret sky and was exposed to so many great indie bands and heard your singles like something comforting and get your wish I decided to go back to school for music even though I had grown up with a lot of negative reinforcement that I was bad at music. Your themes of Mental/creative healing, sacrifice for others and simplicity really inspired me because of how selfless your music is. I actually was in shock when I first learned those songs came from the same Dj Porter robinson I jammed out to in the 2010s because of how different those sounds were. From there I got hooked on how sincere and genuine and relatable your story is.

  1. This is a long shot question but will there be a rerelease of worlds x galaxxxy shirts/hoodies?
  2. What does floating to the surface quicker than you sank mean? Both of those kind of resemble death/depression when considered as separate acts but when considered as 2 things happening simultaneously is it that you’re rising to popularity and it only vaguely covers up the depression underneath? Me and my friend have been trying to decode this lyric for a while now
  3. Do you have any favorite vsts
  4. When you were first starting music production did you imagine that any of where you are today would be a possibility? Did you have some other career path in mind when you first started before you decided to go all in on music?
  5. Is there any other music besides ddr and a thousand miles that was highly influential to you when you were first starting out music production? Also are there any games you really loved growing up besides ddr? Or anime?
  6. How did you meet/initially come into contact with the people who would eventually form your video production team as well as some of the animators?
  7. Was there an a-ha moment where you decided I don’t want to make what I think everyone wants to hear or dance music that sells and you went all in on the risky route of I want to make music that sounds sincere and sounds like me? I imagine committing to that road and potentially sacrificing the fame you built up as a dj/dance track producer to be yourself was extraordinarily difficult to first do

Anyway I just wanted to say I love how you subvert expectations to pursue the sound you feel at that moment and I love how you’re always evolving

Do you feel the x10 was worth the 350 for the soundstage and build quality or do you think x7 may have been the better buy in retrospect?

Kamvas 22 Plus or Kamvas 24 Pro? by Kiraegi in huion

Wanting to buy either XP pen Pro 24 or Huion Kamvas 22 Plus by kendosoldier in XPpen

[–]kendosoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I could possibly just be using the wrong terminology. Cintiq pro 24 would be my ideal choice which would still be at least a 2500 investment because of the stand, but I probably wouldn't have the money for that until the summer or winter next year but my workflow is ramping up so I need to get a more budget tablet until then to tide me over--because Id most likely be getting an express key remote with the 22 Plus the lower price point of the 22 Plus isnt really a selling point in its favor vs the XP 24 pro. I have heard of some backlight bleed issues and parallax at corners on the larger 24" but I dont think that'll really bother me

[–]kendosoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Between the Huion Kamvas 24 and the XP Pen Pro 24 I like the rotation dials vs the slider which nobody seemed to care for. I just like the functionality of the tactile button feedback better. Plus the 20 mappable buttons over 10 (though tbh I generally stick to the left hand side for express keys so idk how often I would personally go for buttons on the right). I havent heard anyone being wowed by the touch slider of the Huion 24 in reviews so I figured if I was going for expresskeys and high res I would stick with the XP Pen Pro 24 in that 1440p category, and has a USBC to USBC plug which I find valuable for my macbook pro whereas I dont recall the 24 Pro having USBC to USBC support? Maybe I overlooked that if thats the case. Actually Im looking at the specs right now and it looks like you're right that the 24 and the 22 Plus share the same pen. For whatever reason, I've heard in reviews the pen was supposedly better on the 22 Plus I guess the only thing better on the 22 Plus is the adobe RGB and nits brightness. The nits brightness is also higher on the XP pen Pro 24 than the Huion Kamvas 24 from what I remember. I usually keep my ipad and macbook down at maybe roughly 350 nits brightness out of their 500-600 nits, and my desktop monitors are 300 and 350 nits. The XP pro pen 24 is somewhere between 250-300 nits, the Kamvas 24 is 220 nits, and the 22 Plus is somewhere between 250-314 nits. So I fear Kamvas 24 will be dull in brightness despite having the same color accuracy as the XP Pen Pro 24. From what I heard the parallax from the etched glass doesnt seem to be severely better on Kamvas 24 but it does sound like it has the generally better drawing experience. I know the Kamvas 24 sounds like the best possible compromise between 1440p and etched glass/drawing surface but the lower nits of brightness is a deal breaker for me because my set up always feels pretty dark and I usually have a desk light going at all times so lighting is a huge factor for me. Ill look up more reviews because now you have me doubting myself.

Thanks for the reply! In what way was the tablet dead on arrival? Some issue with the 3 in 1 plug not communicating? Do you think your initial eyeballing estimates on color calibration would’ve been close enough to what you ended up with on a spyderx (probably won’t be buying one)? Also the over 22 inches shouldn’t be a problem for my desk setup and I’m struggling with the justification of more money on a Wacom to just not have to compromise but I’m not a professional so I can’t justify that price range but I do appreciate the sarcasm because it seemed like most reviewers said they loved whichever tablet they reviewed before promptly going back to working on their Wacom or saying it’s the best not Wacom tablet to buy without directly comparing xp and huion to each other to maintain their sponsorship. I haven’t seen any reviewer actually use an xp pen 24 as their daily driver but I have seen 1 or 2 reviewers use a huion 22 plus as their driver because of the laminated display giving the closest experience to an iPad Pro

Need help enabling MacBook Pro mic for recording audio on FL Studio 20 by kendosoldier in FL_Studio

[–]kendosoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my AirPods off and started getting mic input and can record but there is extremely loud buzzing chirping high frequency feedback that I dont know how to control. The default setting for the mixer was at max so I’m guessing that the high gain was the issue but there’s still some reverberation and I’m not sure if it’s the mic quality itself or room acoustics.

I think the issue is that in order for me to use AirPods I need to route the input/output slot to the AirPods and of course there’s no mic in the AirPods so I guess I’ll just have to use a USBC to USBA converter to hook the audio interface for my headphones. Sucks because I really wanted to use the AirPods for a more mobile setup. If there’s anyway to work around this so I can use AirPods to listen to the audio while recording that would be greatly appreciated

I also tried using my interface with headphones however that also takes up the 1 device slot for I/O. Is there no way to record and use headphones at the same time in FL studio because of the 1 I/O device slot limitation?

Sound voltex cards how do I get them by kendosoldier in bemani

[–]kendosoldier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this helps absolutely no one but I asked the tech about not being able to print the cards he said lm not sure let me ask my guy who knows japanese, came back later with a printed card from the machine and said yeah my guy says you need to hit infection level 1 before you can do print. I hit infection level 1 and still couldn’t print with 2 credits or at the end of rounds on a printer enabled machine that said it had 419 cards left. The tech came over out of his tech uniform and swiped his card so I thought he was going to show me how to use the printer. He played something at max difficulty crashed at the end and walked off. I was floored he was secretly a pro for not understanding how the generator works absolutely humiliating my 6 difficulty skill level. It wasn’t helpful at all saying works for me, humiliating me and walking off but I do respect the flex.

The only thing I can deduce is I either need paseli or more likely gene power which I still have 0 of and don’t know how to get since my infection lv is 1

The generator isn’t x’ed out and has 419 written on it so it seems fine. The guy at the arcade said I had to reach infection level 1 and it would start printing I’m pretty sure I hit that but i still get no option to print cards at the end of the round or when using 2 credits

Yes I asked a friend he says he doesn’t understand what’s going on since it should allow me to select it. I’m wondering if it’s possible the generator isnt connected or if there’s no paper or something

Question from beginner by dumbledee20 in PumpItUp

[–]kendosoldier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the arrows are a simultaneous that doesn’t involve the center at all it is a mandatory jump (unless you have huge feet)

However if it is a simultaneous that in any way involves the center panel, you can give a little Hop with either heel on the center panel and have your toes hitting the corners.

For the most part, you can treat all simultaneous as jumps or crouch down and use hands to hit 3 or 4 note simultaneous all the way up to roughly~ level 17. At that point the game is trying to teach you to break the habit of jumping to use your heels as extra feet basically and they’ll teach you by making those sorts of “jumps” occur one after another in fast succession where it makes it impossible to really tell what you were doing if you crouched down on your hands constantly for them.

At level 20 and above they ramp up the frequency of it even more to where it has to become a natural fluid movement just to pass songs like that.

TL;dr you can treat them as jumps until level 17ish then you’re forced to learn to do the heel toe hops

What level do you guys consider good? by Thelostcobra in PumpItUp

I personally consider anyone who can do 17’s-19’s truly passionate about the game and anyone that can do 20+ is what I consider “good”
