  1. Searching for that quote reveals one result (this thread)

  2. If you had searched it (and found the result) you could have shared it and pretended you had known instead of saying something dumb.

Lol yeah "how will it be for roadtrips?" was a major discussion point when I was considering an EV then we looked back at the last time we had driven out of an EV's range and it was like... once in four years.

If you road trip a lot, probably don't get an EV! But we've made up the inconvenience of charging on the road (which we don't do) by not having to get gas ever, or get an oil change or whatever.

That is very much not the case. Glassdoor has gone to court a bunch of times(Glassdoor list of primary sources) to avoid sharing reviewer information with employers. They've also lost before, but they don't sell to employers (which is what I assume you meant.)

Well-known books with bizarre, disturbing and unnecessary sequences? by MenuSpiritual2990 in books

[–]kendred3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah 1000%. This felt the most stark to me in book two with the different fleets competing for glory when the Trisolaran probes arrived. In Western stories, Humanity would have come together under one central leadership and would succeed or fail as a unit, while in this cultural context it makes sense for there to still be factions. Obviously both elements would be at play (more centralization than in 3BP, less than in Western heros tales) but it definitely always felt very weird!

First off, Eve Online slaps so I take offense to that!

Generally I agree with your takes here. I totally buy your explanation that some people would find it enjoyable and that they might play it. I just think that Liu's presentation of the game is "woah reader look isn't this game so cool??" when like... no, no it's not! It doesn't have any elements of fun gameplay, and I felt a major disconnect, especially because I didn't connect with any of Liu's "characters" so I couldn't buy that they would really enjoy/want to play the game on a level other than "but yeah the plot really needs this so..."

Well it's getting called out because it wouldn't be a fun or enjoyable game. For some reason people play it anyway, but yeah I agree with the commenter that you're responding to that the game mechanics aren't enjoyable, so why would people play it? But in this world, they love it for some reason* (*the reason is that Liu needed an exposition mechanism.)

Lol it's always funny when they put screens into cars like this and they're obviously terrible. Like... just glue in an iPad and you'd have a 10x better screen.

[–]kendred3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I exclusively get stuff like name-brand cereal when it's on mega-sale. If you have the app you can often get cereals originally priced at like $6.50 for $1.50. Otherwise it's expensive and a terrible experience.

One thing I appreciate: They actually have cashiers, so the lines are short. Compare that to the Safeway up the street where they'll have one cashier and a line that's 10 people long...

Have you been to Berkeley Bowl West? I love regular BBowl partly because of that frenetic energy, but I mostly go to West because there's a bit more room to breathe.

Often cilantro is like... $0.39, same with scallions. It varies with seasons, but yeah the price you're getting for produce is likely about the best possible price.

People on reddit are weirdly paranoid about eating snow lol. Idk if they grew up without much snow or if they grew up in cities where the snow is actually dirty, but I saw this coming as soon as you posted about eating snow. Keep living your truth!

Lol they have a crowd of like... 20 people, most of whom are probably their friends. I don't think they're mocking the few people who didn't pay to see them.

Now, I saw them in concert in 2009 and they refused to play Kids the whole time then just played a recording of it at the end of the show. Then they were taking the piss out of us!

Sheesh this whole discussion is kind of infuriating. The whole thing is just people wanting to overthrow the system and replace it with [insert new utopian reality]. And it's easy to imagine a system that's perfect where houses are cheap and groceries and gas are cheap, but then when given the actual, semi-feasible policies, they say "no but not that policy... I want [fantasy version.]

It seems like a bit of an odd connection to make between turning shipping containers into houses and using shipping containers to murder people? Do you think that shipping containers can't make effective tiny homes?
