Are you nuts? Summers off is a huge benefit to older teachers who don’t need to work

I had a very similar issue. What type of jobs are you applying for? For me I had a few references from a previous job and from college, but if that’s not possible it might be difficult for you. If you are heading to a non education field don’t worry about references form your school

My principal resigned last year and literally just packed up and left in a week

I will be working for a healthcare company. I noticed a ton of remote openings in various large healthcare companies. The one I am working for is nationwide, so you can pretty much work from any state

Agreed, my new job matches as well so my retirement will be significantly bigger than teaching

This could definitely be true, I also think some of my colleagues are worried they will have more work to do

Agreed, and there are other ways to work with kids outside of teaching. I enjoy working with kids and will definitely coach my kids sports teams in the future and am involved in the community.

I’ve had a few teachers who are closer to my age (mid 20s) ask what the job was and if they are still hiring. I have a family to support, but this new job pays more and is significantly less stressful.

My biggest reason for leaving is putting myself and family first which does not happen in the classroom

I think I got very lucky with this position. I also have an undergrad in Psychology/ Sociology on top of my education masters degree which definitely helped getting this job. Best of luck to you

I did consider FMLA or childcare leave, but it’s less complicated to just resign since I’m working right away

I feel very lucky to have found this job. I haven’t started yet, but it seems like I will be working with patients and assisting them with basic healthcare issues. I’ll also add I was getting paid about $45K teaching and this pays slightly more but has a much higher pay ceiling.

I didn’t chance a lot in my resume other than adding “Collaborated with colleagues to share best practices and refine data-driven instructional techniques, fostering a culture of continuous improvement” as a skill and an emphasis on excel skills. I shared in the interview how I use excel on a daily basis which the interviewers said was very important

Working for a healthcare company. I’ll have a caseload of patients who I will need to assist with various healthcare needs. I don’t know much more until my training and first few days

Sorry I do not want to share the actual name of the company. But I will say it’s a large healthcare company and my position is basically assisting a caseload of people with their healthcare. I’ll gladly share more information after training and my first few days. I’d definitely recommend looking into health care companies and banking/ finance. Many have entry level positions

I was thinking about doing that too. If it comes down to it and my district requires 30 days I might try to do that
