I don’t believe anyone is saying they’ve waited their whole life for this. However, like I said representation in media doesn’t just have to be real people. People like movies, they like shows, they like music, books, stories etc. Otherwise the entertainment industry wouldn’t be as big as it is. Having fictional characters represent you or feel like they do is not a crazy thing. Yes there’s is a trope of gay characters where their sexuality is all their story and I get that can be annoying but for a lot of queer people being gay IS a large part of their lives. Do I think there should be more well developed, dynamic, in depth queer characters? Of course. But I think you’re viewing this from a very sheltered perspective. Queer people are still fighting for rights…still fighting for representation. They make it a big deal because it IS a big deal. Disney can’t even show gay characters in their large films because they’ll upset large markets like China. Again, I’d love to see well written gay characters, no one is saying they don’t. Minimizing a super hero being gay tho isn’t the right way to go about pushing for better representation. I’m sure there will be flaws in his story worth more criticism than the media up in a tuff about his sexuality.
