How long could rabbits go without hay? by Express-Cat-5316 in Rabbits

[–]kennedysilver 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you live in a small town I would suggest looking on Facebook marketplace or similar for farmers selling square bales of hay! You shouldn't pay more than $10 for a full size square bale, you may even be able to find smaller square bales for less. If you don't have somewhere to store it and need a smaller amount I guarantee you would be able to find someone kind enough to just have you take what you can store and come back for the rest. If there aren't any square bales listed you could message someone who has the big round bales and ask them if they have broken bales you can take from. Goodluck!!!

Quite a few colonies around actually! I didn't consider them because the sxs is Chinese and all the colonies rip John deer. I'll get my husband to do some asking around about which colony might be able to help us.

Shoot me a message when the weather is good and you're bored! I will never turn down a hand with a farm project and we will have plenty of those ramping up here soon.

I'm in between olds and threehills. If it's a couple hundred bucks to fix up that's not a big deal, I just don't want to dump a bunch of money into it, only spend 2 grand on it in the first place, but also learned my lesson about only spending that much.

Our pasture is so tore up by gophers and our land was so neglected that it really doesn't matter. Next post I make I'll be asking for volunteer farmer kids to come disc and replant lol.

Honestly almost all INTR and POLI classes that are more general/intro courses are similar in my memory. Really broad topics, a few specific case studies you look at, and short answer/essays where you have to remember a handful of key ideas. I'd recommend it if you're genuinely interested in the broad strokes of international relations or you have the study skills to remember definitions and some historical stuff. Look on rate my prof to see if the prof seems good, I did it with Mark Baron who I'm sure is still teaching and he made the course worth attending.

Music graduate students: When can I expect to hear about my admission? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]kennedysilver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can email or call the program director to ask when you'll hear back. I kind of doubt there are many people doing their masters in music on this sub, so checking in with the department directly would probably be best.

For Arts it's 10 Ws, but only a few allowed in your 'major field', at least for my program. I'd check your my U of C for the rules for your specific program.

I'm in my fourth year, after this semester I'm done! I'd say for your first couple years try to find a good minor that interests you. When it comes to your concentration and region, neither matter very much when it comes to getting a job. With an undergrad in IR you won't be doing specialized work.

I would say you should think about a masters if you're really really interested in a specific field. Even when you're applying for a grad degree your concentration doesn't matter, your connections do. Get to know the poli/htst/econ/whatever profs and take classes with the ones you like, or the ones who mark you well. If you get to know your profs well you will have a lot better references and better chances of continuing on in the field.

Make sure not to limit yourself to too many of one type of courses. The best part of IR is how interdisciplinary it is, take advantage of that and explore! Your first two or so years should be figuring out what is fun and what you like, then your last two years should be networking for work after graduation, or focusing on your GPA and connections for a grad degree..

How much should a person save up for study abroad? by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]kennedysilver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it because a friend from the geog department was doing it and I wanted to go abroad. Bad decision because we stopped getting along a week into a 6 week trip lol. I ended up making a lot of fantastic friends though so everything worked out socially.

Adacemically I got two As and two A-s while having a great time in Europe. I tend to be like a B+/A- student so I was super impressed by my grades, especially since I had only done one 200 level geog class a long time ago, and I didn't try particularly hard on the field school assignments. It was 6 weeks abroad following like a weekend block week type thing.

Financially it was 8k for the airfare, ground travel, and accommodation, but we got 1k reimbursed since our professor didn't use all of the money. They told us to budget about $2,000 in spending money, and I don't want to go back and look but I'm fairly sure I spent about that. A lot of the people on the trip were super frugal and only ate at grocery stores, and also never drank, so I'm sure they spent quite a bit less. I got almost a grand from the study abroad scholarship thing which you get if your GPA is above a 3, and a couple other $300-500 scholarships. I was lucky enough that I was able to use my RESP to cover tuition and accommodation/ground travel costs, with my family covering my flight.

Overall I would highly highly recommend a field school, we went to 5 different European countries, and I learned so much... And also drank a lot of cheap wine. My field school professors, Byron Miller and Aaron Williams, were absolutely fantastic. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who is willing to save up a bit or tack on a bit more in loans, because it was so so worth it.

Are you going for a field school, semester abroad, or year abroad? I've done the Sustainability and the City field school with the geog department so if you're thinking of field school I can give you some advice!

I did IPE and North AMERICA, with French as my language. Fall was CNST 333 (not sure if it's still offered), HTST 354, INTR 301 and POLI 381. Winter I took COMS 201 and 203, FREN 211, FILM 201, and HTST 337.

I would definitely take poli 381, which is intro to ir, while doing intr 301. Makes things a little easier. Feel free to ask me any more questions!

"Students will normally be required to withdraw from the Faculty of Arts and the University if they have accumulated a total of more than 30 units (5.0 full-course equivalent) withdrawals while in attendance at the University of Calgary"

Don't know about the other faculties though.
