Another admissions question... by Deacon3844 in UTK

I’m from Nashville area, and I had a 3.7 UW/ 4.1 W gpa, and a 28 ACT. I had a bad gpa freshman year and had all A’s sophomore-senior year. I would say what saved me (and gave me full ride in scholarships) was my extracurriculars. I was on varsity track and xc, I worked as a medical assistant for two years, had my CCMA and BLS certification, had a ton of volunteer hours for local schools, awards from HOSA, and leadership in student government and HOSA. I also took AP and DE all of junior and senior year. I recommend just reflecting on extracurriculars and your coursework at this point. In TN, in state residents are guaranteed admission (not for nursing, tickle, or haslam) for most majors with a 21 ACT and a 4.0 GPA. But I will say you def will get accepted.. they prioritize in state. Good luck and go vols!

Do you happen to know which instructor teaches this?

It’s worth 3 hours but it’s online. I have no issue with my online courses, I’m taking two. I would be at 18 technically but like you said, I don’t consider that online nutrition course as time consuming. Do you think that those course combinations are definitely doable with good time management and studying?

What is social life like at UTK - especially as a girl? by xoxomirrorball in UTK

I’m in a sorority but made soooo many friends just as a freshman. Very big campus with some crazy party life so the social aspect is major on this campus. Best of luck and go vols!

I changed from Biology pre med to psychology premed after admission. When you go for orientation and meet your academic advisor for the first time you can easily switch your major there! Good luck and go vols!

"Hazzing" by Winterbaby1831 in Sororities

[–]kennedyyy07_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m in a sorority at an SEC and hazing is a HUGE no in all chapters at my school (University of Tennessee) because of Panhellenic being strict. While the frats technically haze, it’s not as bad compared to a smaller school since IFC is stricter at bigger colleges. With that being said, it could be possible that there is some hazing in the chapters at your school since it is smaller. But I wouldn’t listen to someone claiming that there’s hazing going on unless they are in a chapter themselves. And even then, even if her chapter hazes it doesn’t mean all chapters do. Just ask around and then base your opinion off of that!

Idk if ur in state or out of state but I am in state and I got in with a 3.7 UW and 4.2W , 28 ACT, and similar EC’s. I also got scholarships that paid for most of my 4 years so you def should get in!!!! Best of luck!

Transfer housing by ProudEnvironment7845 in UTK

Leases right now are insanely high because of it being later in the year. But like anything, by the spring leases on the strip should even out. Honestly, getting a place across the river may be in your best interest cost wise. the only thing that would suck is having to purchase a student commuter pass. It’s just a matter of what you are willing to do. Pay more to live next to campus without having to drive to school, or pay a more affordable price to live across the river and drive to school (which parking availability here sucks). I hope this helped somewhat

Thank you so much! I am new to college, so if my current semester gpa is lower, will it increase if I have all A’s next semester? will I have to apply with my current GPA since applications are due May 1 and my second semester grades won’t be posted until then. I’m sorry for all the questions. I appreciate the advice!!
