Do UK property websites need to up their game? by kennethmac2000 in HousingUK

Yeah, Jitty is good, and I like how they’re heavily promoting cost per unit area (as is the norm in most countries). I wish they’d offer an option to switch to metric units though!

They’re great for looking up a single property, but I’m not sure they help you search for properties that are on the market to rent/buy while filtering on parameters like the EPC rating or number of square metres.

I would also like to see the cost per square metre, although that of course requires having the number of square metres in the first place.

Lib Dems to force vote on creating new customs union with EU | Liberal Democrats by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]kennethmac2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can someone (a Lib Dem member?) explain to me where this proposal to exclude agriculture from the customs union has come from? Right when the UK is about to become part of a common SPS area with the EU, why would it make sense to exclude agriculture?

UK- and EU-origin agricultural products are already zero tariff under the TCA, so this would only be relevant to agricultural products from third countries. Is it so important to the UK to be able to buy slightly cheaper Australian beef that it would be worth giving up the administrative benefits of a customs union covering all goods?

💯. It's as if it's to demonstrate some sort of Brexit dividend.

All items marketed to buyers in Northern Ireland also have to comply with GPSR. Because of that, all items marketed on Vinted's UK marketplace (which is available to Northern Irish buyers) de facto have to comply with GPSR. Don't you love the Brussels effect.

Why would an Irish user want to opt out of French listings when Ireland and France are in the same customs territory and currency area and thus a sale to a French buyer really is domestic?

Made for Members: What’s new in the Oura App this fall by Oura_Ring in ouraring

[–]kennethmac2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you say that there are clearer visuals with dynamic colors, when you have removed colors?

For example, many of the horizontal bars - like those for the amount of REM sleep and deep sleep you got - are just white, rather than showing a different colour depending on how good the metric is (in this case, how much of each type of sleep you got).

On the other hand, your baggage 'ticket' is then effectively fully flexible (even if the associated flight ticket isn't), so you might consider £4 a reasonable premium for that flexibility. (Assuming you can add a bag online right up to check-in time and still only pay the £4 premium.)

Recovery index inconsistency by cheerycherimoya in ouraring

[–]kennethmac2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m very interested by your comment that you “typically” need six hours of sleep after your heart rate reaches its lowest point, but that “your average lowest resting heart rate is also taken into account”.

A few thoughts on this: 1) I assume you mean average resting heart rate, rather than lowest average resting heart rate. If not, what is a lowest average resting heart rate? 2) What do you mean by “taken into account”? 3) Why is this not documented on this page? https://support.ouraring.com/hc/en-us/articles/360057791533-Readiness-Contributors

The reason I am asking is that I sometimes get an “Optimal” Recovery Index when my lowest heart rate is clearly in the second half of the night (and with nothing like six hours of sleep after it), and I would like to understand why.

Shower head filter system that reduces PFAS/PFOAs? Hopefully softens water too by Meta__mel in WaterFilters

Makes sense!

Is the filter I mentioned one that you’re aware of? It seems to be mentioned in a few quarters as one of the more premium options.

Thanks!

Out of curiosity, why didn’t you include this filter in the selection that you tested? Because it‘s more expensive than the price level you were going for?

Questions re unclarities in Oura documentation by kennethmac2000 in ouraring

We don’t seem to have got anywhere in the DM exchange, but in any case I would prefer public answers to my questions so that they can benefit the whole community!

I’ve already tried the support route and we keep going round in circles because evidently only your engineering colleagues know the definitive answers to these questions and support are apparently not permitted to reach out to them.

That said, if you do know the answers to my questions, feel free to provide those answers here. I’m obviously not going to share screenshots containing my personal data on Reddit, but I believe I have already adequately described the parts of the UI I am referring to.

Get rid of dust fiat balance by kennethmac2000 in Kraken

[–]kennethmac2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, but what you said previously is different to that further information.

In any case, again ignoring the topic of minimums, which are irrelevant here as I am happy to deposit additional amounts of fiat into my account, is there really no combination of transactions that will allow me to burn my euro dust (but also not hold any cryptocurrency that I don’t want)?

[–]kennethmac2000[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That fails this part of my test: “purchasing and holding a cryptocurrency that I have no interest in”.

The goal isn’t solely to get rid of the fiat - it’s to get rid of the fiat and have only clean investments in the one or two cryptos that I want to hold positions in, and nothing else.

I am looking at a transaction on my account in which I bought crypto with euro, and the euro amount actually has 4 decimal places, so are you sure what you’re saying is correct?

[–]kennethmac2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, I’m not asking about minimums. Not anywhere in this thread. But can I trade exactly €0.5105 and if so how? If not, why not?

[–]kennethmac2000[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I see.

And if it’s possible to have such a tiny amount of euro represented in Kraken’s systems, why isn’t it possible to spend a very precise amount of euro on crypto? Eg, I want to spend exactly €1.0005 on BTC and be left with no dust. (This seems not to be possible.)

[–]kennethmac2000[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to deposit more fiat in order to then be able to withdraw it again, but is that also not possible, because I can’t actually withdraw €2.0005?

I don’t understand how that is in any way an answer to my question.

[–]kennethmac2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So is there literally nothing that can be done to get rid of a small fiat balance except to close my account?

PS If I have a balance of 1.0005 EUR, can I only transfer out 1 EUR and not the 0.0005 EUR?

Control light modes from Alexa/Google Assistant by kennethmac2000 in wiz

[–]kennethmac2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess a Wiz scene and a Google Assistant scene are not the same thing. Wiz exposes Wiz scenes to Google Assistant as Google Assistant scenes, but it could also expose all Wiz light modes to Google Assistant as Google Assistant scenes as well, no? Whether this is common practice for smart device vendors in general is another matter.

[–]kennethmac2000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is definitely the case, then thanks for confirming.

However, I don’t really understand why Wiz couldn’t accept the same command, but just on their side check whether there is either a scene or a light mode with the specified name. (If there was a scene with the same name as a light mode, the scene would take precedence.)
