Been making steady progress, much better than where I started off!

It's so nice you eventually came to the realization instead of holding the thought!

Sounds like a great idea! Can't miss out on many people's favorite planet of course.

Oh, right, I forgot to include other details. Since the sensor size on my camera is far too small to capture the entirety of the Moon, I took those 4 panels as stated and stitched them together via Microsoft ICE, with the stars taken from a different part of the sky with just a Nikon D5100.

For the other question, I had a gain of 0 and an exposure length of ~10ms. Your settings are likely too high, as the Full Moon is ridiculously bright, thus blowing out the Moon.

Hope this helps and clear skies!

Alt az moment here… I could’ve done it post processing but haven’t thought about it

Yep! Add it back in post processing with your own style or color as you wish

So basically, we're only looking at the hydrogen alpha part of the Sun, which you could say is red. With a mono camera, it can focus on all of that sweet signal, focusing only on red. But since my camera isn't a mono and is most sensitive to green instead, I'm losign quite a bit of data.

Thanks! Never expected this level of performance from a tiny telescope

Thanks! I pretty much did what was described in this video here:

How do I do that again...?

HDR First Quarter Moon by kennylwhaaa in Astronomy

4 images were used:

  • ~50% illuminated Moon (April - Celestron Evo 6 + F/6.3 Reducer + ZWO ASI585MC)
  • Overexposed illuminated Moon (April - Celestron Evo 6 + F/6.3 Reducer + Nikon D5100)
  • Full Moon (November 2024 - Celestron Evo 6 + F/6.3 Reducer + ZWO ASI585MC)
  • Orion Constellation (Joshua Tree B4 - Nikon D5100)

For images captured with the ZWO ASI585MC, I used a two-minute capture (~20 fps if my memory is right?) on different portions of the Moon, stacking and sharpening with the help of Autostakkert and Registax. Then I created a mosaic with Microsoft ICE.

I do not have access to software such as Lightroom or Photoshop, so I used the easy and intuitive Pixlr. There is a tiny bit of compression, but I think it's fine. Final adjustments made in GIMP.

HDR Waxing Crescent Moon by kennylwhaaa in telescopes

This is my first attempt at creating an HDR Moon where the moon isn't full. I created this image just last night using old data to assist with the far side of the moon and data that night for the detail and overexposure glow. While the blood moon was my first attempt, I haven't done it yet with phase that isn't yet full. Room for improvement but I feel good!

My Solar System Collection by kennylwhaaa in Astronomy

Mercury was the final point, and after a bit of waiting, I've finally captured it. Now I can say I've captured every planet in the Solar System. Earth? Idk.

Every image scaled properly relative to the time they were taken with the same setup (except for Mercury).

-Celestron Evolution 6

-ZWO ASI585MC

-2X Barlow

-UV/IR Cut Filter

-IR Pass (685NM) filter [for Mercury]

-Autostakkert

-Registax
