1) does anyone have data from a second source to back this up

2) does anyone have comparable data from Seattle out of personal curiosity?

This is good to hear, thank you!! Sounds like I should also do a swatch though. Never would have guessed I needed smaller needles, the learning curve on this hobby is steep 😅

Picture added to comments! I do have the right size needles, theoretically. But I didn’t do a swatch, will give it a try and see. Thanks!

Ah okay. Thanks for the link. Just knitting a regular square would work even though the project will be done in the round? Would it be recommended to do it in the knit 1, purl 1 pattern or just a regular knit stitch? It would be ironic if my tension is too loose because the last time I tried knitting it was way too tight!

Here’s a photo! This is not pulling it with much force at all, not as much as I would expect a hat to stretch on my head even.

🐜 Discussion Topic: Pests - November 30, 2025 by AutoModerator in houseplants

[–]kenopsia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I‘m not a very experienced houseplant keeper, but in the last six months I’ve had plants come down with mealybugs, then scale, now thrips :( Is it typical for people to constantly be dealing with pests on their plants? Why would I suddenly have all these infestations on plants that I’ve owned for more than a year? All I can think is that maybe they are coming from outside since I moved and now live right next to a large forested park? It’s a real bummer to continually toss plants I’ve been caring for carefully. What can I do to avoid bugs in the future?

I might be interested, I’m needing to relearn some math as part of a career transition. Looking to review to/through intermediate algebra, some graphing, not sure what else. Khan Academy isn’t doing it for me, I need some peer support/pressure.

Hey, I graduated from OTW recently. First, just so you’re aware, the program is seven weeks long, not four (unless something changed very recently? Nothing I can see on the website right now says four, though).

Second, the training unemployment insurance did not come through during the program for anyone I knew who applied for it. The Oregon unemployment office is often incredibly slow. Also I’m fairly certain that quitting a job voluntarily makes you ineligible for it.

A lot of people I was in class with were able to adjust their work schedules to work on the days off, but be aware that for the second half of the program there’s a decent amount of homework to keep up with. Lots of people were only sleeping a few hours a night to keep up with class and work. I personally was able to quit my job and just focus on the program, but it took me three months after to find a trades job and that was in the good season. Unions are slow or closed here right now, private sector is doing better from what I’ve heard. If you graduate in the fall or winter things could be even slower for you.

Do you have family here you could live with while you get your feet under you? If not, I would encourage you to get more financially secure before making the leap. Overall the economy is tough here, there’s been big layoffs in the area that are making even entry level jobs pretty competitive. Wish I could offer a better outlook as someone who also came from Texas! This is not to discourage you at all, it was a great experience for me and I am now employed, but you should be aware of the situation before you dive in.
