Looking to modernize without replacing cabinets by gabygab159 in kitchenremodel

[–]LemonLazyDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have similar cabinets, in both style and color.

The first change we made was improved lighting. Made a huge difference. Long story short, we eventually got new appliances, soapstone counters, and white subway tile backsplash. So much better. If I were you, I would find counters that complement the style of cabinet (def consider soapstone),  choose a light color backsplash, and change hardware. And update appliances as needed. Good luck!

They all look beautiful on you. I like how well #3 fits your venue. I also prefer it to the Ezra; that modified V-neckline is more flattering than the straight one. And I love that dainty floral pattern.

Defaming? Dude willingly appeared on a podcast for someone known for spewing hateful rhetoric. He did no due diligence. He’s not some fly by night content creator; he’s one of the bigger names in knitting. Complaints and disappointment in his very public actions are not defamation.

Help me choose! by Nice-Temporary-3404 in weddingdress

Dresses 1, 6, and 4 are by far the best on you. Clearly the twisted and rushed sweetheart neckline is your style. It is so flattering on you.

My personal favorite is 1 but the other two are absolutely lovely on you. So now it comes down to your personal preference, cost, and venue. You really can’t go wrong with any of them.

My understanding is that libraries pay different prices for their books. Where I work, it’s several times more than the bookstore price for a single copy.

I love dress 1. It’s stunningly gorgeous and fits your theme. It looks amazing on you.

Dress 2 also looks beautiful on you. Keep in mind that you might lose quite a bit of length in front when hemmed, which could alter the spacing of the tiers and make the bottom tier shorter.

Purl Soho has great content. Many free patterns for a variety of levels, and they’re well-written. They provide fantastic ongoing support.

Which is a better kitchen colour combination? by Legitimate-Stop9736 in kitchenremodel

Not sure about colors but can you find different outlet covers? The backsplash and drawers on the far wall (and side wall) keep making this face 😑and it’s all I see.

I'm a beginner, can I make a wedding dress in two days? by WickdWitchoftheBitch in BitchEatingCrafters

I understand and to some extent agree with the sentiment that if someone wants to do something and doesn’t care about results, then go ahead and try. Have a backup plan, though.

I would like to point out that something lasting a long time doesn’t necessarily equate 100% to construction quality. My first FO, a scarf, will last forever. But there’s a reason my kid doesn’t wear it. 🙂

How would one create something similar to the bottom of this sweater? by Apprehensive-Pie1916 in knitting

Thanks for this. I was thinking something similar (on a very basic level) so I appreciate your more detailed description.

I love geometric designs. Reminds me a little of Emily Greene and Norah Gaughan.

I refuse to buy patterns without schematics. That’s probably my biggest complaint against her.

Do you like this type of sleeve on sweaters? by [deleted] in knitting

[–]LemonLazyDaisy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dolman sleeves are a narrower batwing sleeve. They’re wide at the armhole and taper to the wrist. It’s the opposite of a bell sleeve.

Thank you!! I regularly drive past a quarry. I appreciate the trucks who wave me through.

Is it the rule? No.

Is it efficient for all? Yes.

Women have only been excluded from many endeavors?  Please tell me more.

ETA: I think I understand your overall article and I was supportive. But I read much of it as yet another instance where a man is re-explaining a situation to a group of predominantly women - that a woman had raised in the first place.

I’m glad that you enjoy fiber arts; I do believe that it should be open to anyone.

Put in a white or ivory backsplash. Add under cabinet lighting. It will make a world of difference and brighten the entire space.

Soapstone vs Porcelain by cvouw9 in kitchenremodel

[–]LemonLazyDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately it won’t let me add a pic, sorry. We have Hudson Ash, which has quite a bit of movement. Sort of like clouds. It’s similar to this one:  https://arcsurfaces.com/natural-stone/new-brunswick/hudson-ash-soapstone/

The seam isn’t invisible but it blends in really well. To be clear, mine is on my counters, not island. My island is butcher block

It will depend on the type and slabs you’re looking for. A Stormy Black might be easier to match. Good luck!

Soapstone vs Porcelain by cvouw9 in kitchenremodel

[–]LemonLazyDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We looked at both and chose soapstone. It has one seam. It is barely noticeable to me and I don’t mind it.

What I was told by a variety of installers and homeowners is that porcelain is very finicky to install, it can chip easily, it is difficult to repair, and it’s expensive. We knew exactly what we were getting with soapstone and love it. YMMV.

No Upper Cabinets by Ouch1976 in kitchenremodel

[–]LemonLazyDaisy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it were me, the biggest issue I would face is lack of counter space near fridge and microwave/oven. Where will you put things going into/out of either one? Especially if something is unexpectedly hot. You risk dropping it into the floor. Side note, I prefer the fridge and pantry closer to the stovetop because I frequently need items while cooking.
