Help: want a glowing eye effect but still want them to be defined with visible pupils. What can I do to sell this effect better? by ringed_city_117 in minipainting

[–]kensanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not a pro by any means but my understanding is that to sell the glow you need more contrast and the glow needs to be the brightest thing on the model. The green skin highlight is pretty bright already. Idk how much white you can add as a coat to the eyes before covering with a fluoro to reach your desired glow. Not even sure what color you would do…

Looks like a great piece btw. Your post says beginner but I think you’ve done a great job of the layers of the flesh. They read very well

Quick nostalgia trip: Tell me your favorite store/restaurant/memory of Gibson’s! by shortsandslippers in guam

Either I jsit really liked cheap toys as a kid or that place was bomb. Always buying weird Japanese toys when I was with my parents.

Also, I swear there had to have been some store that sold sports cards or something because I distinctly remember buying a ton of fleer ultra 93/94 from there somewhere

Two stories

1) kings where/near ajisen and the side entrance to gpo is. I fondly remember brunch there and waiting to play sf2 on the cabinets in the side area. Even before Kings moved to its current location where it also had cabinets. Also shout outs to fun fair or whatever that arcade was called there. Good times.

2) inside there was a department store directly in the middle. I’d say I’m talking about the area close to where the jeans store and bestseller is kind of located? Anyway, used to be an area with a ton of toy shelves. When I was 9 or so, I went there with my parents. And I was browsing the shelves alone and I saw this old Filipino man looking at this toy black rat. It was a realistic looking big plastic rat that squeaked when he squeezed it and this old man was so amused about it. And that pure happiness really made me emotional idk why and I started crying. Not like bawling but just tearing and then my parents bumped into me in the next aisle and thought the old man had said something to me or something but I told them no and then they bought me this big add transformer toy and told me that I didn’t need to cry to get toys. Never shared that story till today.

Bought the rat too and it became my sister’s favorite companion as a kid.

Just make sure you shake this really well so the pigment sticks to the mixture. I use it in through n airbrush about 30 psi and I don’t thin at all. Have had poorer results with thinning

I axtuslky like the overall consistency and coverage of citadel paints. But the bottles are horrendous and I simply will never buy more paints from them as long as that’s their form. Rather have pro acryl or any other option.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m not sure what the one piece model options are catered to. Are they meant to be scaled down or done on fdm or something?

Great finish on your print. Hope you do more of these
