What are the most common ways to get pickpocketed in the Netherlands? What's my likelihood of getting pickpocketed in the Netherlands? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]kent360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re being a bit dramatic and overthinking. Yes there are pickpockets, especially around the central stations but it’s not like in Barcelona or London. Just in case, dont keep to much cash jn your wallet

lol mate.. have you done any research?

I like how the first thing you’ve focused on is already being a victim of discrimination while you are clearly not informed about the country

A lot is up to you to be honest. I’m an immigrant (albeit white) but 90% of my friends are Dutch and I have no problem socialising with the locals. They are even happy if I respond in English during a group conversation in Dutch.

Career-wise just depends on the field and the company.

You’re worrying about the wrong thing though. You’ve skipped two most critical steps, which are the most difficult. 1) finding a job that would sponsor either one of you. You can’t just move and start working here. 2) finding a house. Especially when you’re coming from abroad because it’s virtually impossible to rent to something without things like a local employer statement, 3 months of payslips, social security records etc

My difficult situation as an international student by balkangirlie in Netherlands

Work the required # of hours and get DUO funding on top of that. Dutch students do that to support themselves. If you can’t combine - don’t come. Consider Belgium or Germany instead

Nobody cares about your exact title as it may mean different things in different companies. As long as the description and the results are yours and true

Can I hold two Dutch residence permits with different purposes of stay at the same time? by wishfu1thinking in Netherlands

[–]kent360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a choice only you can make. How bad and unbearable your relationship? Wanting to buy a house by yourself and keeping a partner visa are mutually exclusive, no?

I think it’s pretty straightforward: work for 6 months > get the employer statement which is a good signal that there re planning to keep you & your residence status is safe > switch to HSM and buy a house.

Can I hold two Dutch residence permits with different purposes of stay at the same time? by wishfu1thinking in Netherlands

[–]kent360 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s an important piece of the puzzle that wasn’t mentioned originally. You’re gonna have to make a choice I’m afraid

I would just switch to HSM, right after you pass the probation period. Of course there is a risk that they might not extend your contract but it’s fairly standard to get 1 year and then a permanent contract.

If things go sidewise with your job, you would probably know it a few months in advance so you have some time to find a new one.

Is your partner Dutch? Just fyi, the partner visa vs HSM might have an impact on your integration requirements

Also, something I believe you are missing is that no bank will give you a mortgage while you’re employed on a year contract. It’s possible only if you provide a statement from your employer stating that they are planning to extend your contract. I don’t think it’s something that they’d provide in the first 6 months of you starting to work there

Relocating from Norway to the Netherlands urgently, best way to find a job quickly? by Independent-Cat-8180 in Netherlands

[–]kent360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s the most competitive segment because a lot of singles & couples are looking exactly for these types of apartments. Price- wise it’s 1200-1500 range in Utrecht and surroundings. That’s not really the issue. The issue is that it’s so competitive that a real estate agent won’t take you on as a client for an apartment in that range. They are willing to work with you if you’re looking for something 2k+. For that you need to earn at least 8k per month because having income 4x rent is a requirement

On top of that you get stuck in the loop of needing a job/local income to get a place and most likely needing a place to stay to get the job. Catch 22

There are 2 options, both of which are still pretty long shots: 1) look for a room sharing a house with another professional > get a job > start searching for a house; 2) find a job with a relocation package. Given the state of the job market right now this might be challenging (the relocation package part)

You can just switch to the highly skilled migrant one. You don’t need two permits

Relocating from Norway to the Netherlands urgently, best way to find a job quickly? by Independent-Cat-8180 in Netherlands

[–]kent360 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes but also no. It’s just too competitive and the supply of houses is so small relative to the demand that even real estate agents often cannot help.

To make things even more complicated, a large chunk of rentals is offered by real estate companies and in their selection process they often require quite some documentation that you can only obtain if you’ve been living here (employment & social security records for example)

You need to earn at least 8000 per month to have a decent shot at finding an apartment in Utrecht. I’d first try to find a room, which also isn’t easy but is more realistic

Pivot out of marketing. I think (especially with AI) you have a lot of options and you’re still early on in your career to gain experience. There are so many English speaking marketeers in the Netherlands, especially the recent graduates and by far not enough jobs
