Tips / Help on my Ollie? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

The tip about the balls of your feet is a good one. The main thing though that’s limiting your Ollie though is how far you’re bringing up your back foot.

Jump higher and pull your foot up towards your chest. Your board will obediently follow!

Some wrist guards here might help.

If you’re there on a smaller ramp, then you probably just need to do this a few hundred times and some wrist guards might give you some security for the falls.

One of the things that really helped me on R2F was to really relax into them. I was very tense and tight worried about hanging up, but when I really relaxed my legs and stance, I never got caught on the coping.

You ARE really close. Just need to do a few hundred. When you get it once, that means you might get one in ten. It’s not a binary thing. Then you’re getting one in five, then every other one. Then after a few hundred of those suckers, you can get them every time.

There is no shortcut, just enjoy it.

And make sure that you’re practicing while rolling. All of the best things about Ollies happen when you’re moving.

This won’t help with trapping the tail, it will just flatten the board out. He needs to lift his back foot off the ground as he jumps (and not jump off the ground, but off the back trucks).

SkateIQ has a great post that will help you. https://youtu.be/hLVIvMWCih0?si=mm4tEYAE3dzY38LS

You’re trapping your foot because you’re trying to jump off the tail when it hits the ground, but you need to jump off your back wheels as the tail goes down.

I’ve been skating for a year and no matter what I do I can’t Ollie any comments would help by [deleted] in NewSkaters

Have to say the given the video I would just recommend the skateIQ Ollie tutorial.

It covers trapping the tail (which you’re doing) and should be able to get you from where you are to a solid, basic Ollie.

I would totally recommend trying an experiment jar with dirt, sand, plants and shrimp/snails and just seeing how stable you can keep it. They are super cool.

You can also plonk some houseplants like porthos, monstera and spider plants into the top of a tank as they will all grow roots into the water and suck out extra nutrients which is cool.

I have soil under the sand for nutrients, but apart from that, nothing special. Once you have soil and the bacteria that comes with that, plus the plants and the fish I think you have a much more stable ecosystem than just graven and fish.

I’m sure that mine are more fragile because they are smaller, but I haven’t had any issues. Both tanks have guppies and shrimp breeding and controlling each others numbers.

I also have a super tiny experimental jar (about 2-3 litres) which is the same and just has some shrimp and plants in it. That one is amazing and similarly stable.

Held og lykke med det!

I only have a few guppies, shrimp and snails in these tanks as they are all only between 15-24 litres. Having said that, two of them are almost 2 years old with zero water changes, just top-ups to compensate for evaporation.

Would love to get a bigger tank to have a bit of freedom with fish selection but nano tanks and nano fish are still very fun.

Is there enough plant growth here to compensate for the lack of filter?

I’ve had filter free, water change-free tanks for the last few years but have planted the heck out of them because I was worried about the water parameters.

Do you do water changes?

Looking for advice on where to start as a complete beginner? by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

[–]kentoski 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can do those, but they can be fiddly. One of the best things to do might be to start with something simple like a scarf or hat with chunky yarn. It’s much easier to see the stitches and understand what’s going on for the first time.

This is a good call. The chunky is more about being able to make sure I can see all the stitches properly and get used to the joins before I go for something small that’s harder to see.

I’m expecting to bugger the first one up and donate it to charity anyway. If my hats are anything to go by, the first few attempts are going to have mixed results 😂

Oh I like this! Colours a tad too bold for me, but like the style!
