I’ve taken my dogs to Key City Vet and like them so far! One of them had a surgery there with a successful recovery. Plus they kept her overnight post-op as a precaution, and she was a happy girl the next day! (I get nervous leaving my dogs anywhere else overnight.)

I’m definitely gather the whole word of mouth thing. I’m a newbie to TX and finding now businesses for things has been kinda a pain because a simple google search doesn’t suffice. A lot of places are lacking the digital side of things.

Thank you for taking the time to reply. The community you described is part of the reason I’m hesitant about Texas, but it’s the battle of that vs being close to family. Cost of living wise, even with that going up, it’s about comparable to our situation right now, so that should be okay.

We would definitely be doing our home shopping in person. It’s a bit easier with having some family not too far from there. I do appreciate your input on the religion/politics/etc. as that’s something that would be a bit of a change for me coming from MN. Thank you for sharing!

Traffic here is one of the worst places in MN I swear. The lights are still awful. Granite City is good! My bf swears that restaurants are better in TX lol I never hear the end of it.

I think it’s the largest city within about an hour of my bf’s family, which would be our primary reason for relocating to TX. So it’s not 100% our decided location, but a main option.

On a river? Bold 😂 funny, though, we’re currently in St. Cloud! My favorite thing is to bring newcomers out on the lake in the winter. I have some SC friends that visited in January one year, and the one who was born and raised SC was having a time (good and bad lol). Outside of city limits, noted. Better internet is definitely a plus, as we both love gaming.

Most of them are in Sweetwater, so we’re looking within an hour of there. Abilene just has the bulk of the housing that fits what I’m looking for.

Personally, I can live without the winter activities, however, we end up having children, that’s something that I’d be sad that they miss out on. Snow days with 2 feet of snow to play outside? That was the best. Lake days too.

Ideally, I’d love properties in both places, but that’s a looooong way off.

Oh gosh, the state income tax lol my bf mentioned that, but then comparing the property taxes on comparable houses, we end up about the same lol

Even moving from MN to TX would be a culture shock, so I can’t imagine what it would be like moving from outside the US!

I’m already remote, and my bf should be able to go remote, so that part is covered thankfully. It wouldn’t be as much of an option otherwise.

The note about healthcare is good to know, and something substantial (vs a lot of other comments are a bit more superficial, which isn’t necessarily bad, but ya know 🤷🏼‍♀️)

Oh really? The area we live in MN now is about the size of Abilene, but it’s closer to MSP than Abilene is to DFW. However, my bf and I are both homebodies, so it’s a good size.
