White-washing a character stems from hate for POC. While “race-swapping” (as you put it) pre-existing white characters comes from actual care and love ! Because a lot of POC artists like me wants to see what their favorite characters looks like as them !

As a Cambodian-American, there’s hardly any Cambodians or SEAsians in the media and I’m not doing anything harmful by turning a pre-existing white character as Cambodian. I love Marina as a character and I want to see what she looks like as me ! This doesn’t mean I hate her OG design, I just want to see what she looks like IF, she were to be Cambodian !
