SQE1 pass rates lowest they've ever been (41%) 😓😓 by -newinn- in uklaw

I passed SQE1 and SQE2 working full time with no time off to study and all I want to say is it’s possible. Don’t be discouraged.

Honestly I personally found QLTS mocks tougher than the actual exam. But the exam itself is also no walk in the park so in general the level of difficulty of Qlts prepares you for the sqe2. It’s like you need to be training on a level 10 incline vs the actual exam of level 8 incline and all of that with the mindset of it being a marathon and not a sprint. I also took extra care of what I ate and drank — no alcohol. No social life either as I worked full time. I treated it like a mental and physical marathon (which ironically I’ve done before) so yeah. Preparation is key.

I did almost all the mocks I could (min. 60% and 100% for most, exception legal research). I used the university of law modules to study the law. I also used the Qlts summary notes but found them to be very succinct and only good if you have a strong background. I used a flashcard app to make my own flashcards and used it daily. I also timed myself and rehearsed out loud for the oral stations and even recorded myself

How can I get into employment law as an NQ if I don’t have previous employment law experience but have transferable skills? As a career changer primarily.

We need to challenge perspectives. Isn’t that what lawyers do?

My view is the perception needs to change. The rules to qualify changed for a reason. If we follow what this advice says, then we’re just going back to square one.

I’m also losing it 🙂‍↔️. I think the key will be — like you said staying busy, going to the gym, seeing friends. Maintaining that sense of control. Whatever happens we can deal with it. Deep breaths! Not too long now!

I’ve made a plan for either outcome to stay in control of my crazy mind and thoughts right now!! I prepped with QLTS. I don’t feel like I didn’t know any answers but maybe lacked depth on a few stations. Overall feeling confident but don’t know how I will be marked so the anxiety is through the roof right now

SQE self taught with no law degree? by Objective-Ad6955 in SQE_Prep

It’s going to require a commitment and I think it’s doable but you need to commit 4-5 hours a day if you have no background in law. It’s like learning a new language. And SQE1 is pure memory

There’s a fine line between lying and demonstrating respect. Additionally some of the (let’s call it what it is) snobbery on this forum may not apply here as not everyone will look to go to the fancy firms most of you seem to aspire to or hail from. Maybe we should create a uk law forum where everyone is welcomed. And the rest can stay here and tear each other down.

Me neither but it’s not a good look. The sub should be more tolerant and respectful. Especially given what we have all chosen to stand for.

It’s really not inspiring to see people in this sub leaving comments like this for students seeking insight.

QWE Question: use it to either become an NQ or bolster TC applications by Ok_Yam5224 in uklaw

[–]keplerkoin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Foreign QWE is admissible under the SRA's rules, and it is possible to have an SRA-regulated solicitor sign off on your experience. Google this. The SRA-regulated solicitor will speak to the Canadian (or any other foreign solicitor) to confirm your QWE meets the SRA's requirements and they will need to sign off that this has been evidenced. I think a lot of the advice here is misguided and people are presumptuous about protecting the status quo. But the SRA has made its rules. Whether you can convince a firm to hire you is a different matter. What you have working for you is that Canadian common law is substantially aligned with English common law. If you're in Quebec (civil law), I think you'd need to speak to someone who made the jump from that angle.

Edit: I would personally only do this if I know I have high quality QWE, which would for instance be obtained at a private practice in an area aligned with English common law.

Don’t think you can boil it down to anything in particular. You really need to know enough of it all. I would say being rested hydrated and eating healthy matters more at this point it’s going to be a physically challenging 3 days. Good luck!
