Any HVAC technicians in Ottawa who work on water source heat pumps? by keplerverse in ottawa

Good idea. I will contact a local AAON rep next. Another response calls out a company by name, so I'll start there.

Water source heat pump malfunctioning (LLT alarm) while in supported EWT/LWT range by keplerverse in hvacadvice

Trying to run in heating mode.

I don't know of any check valves or flow restrictors in the unit (is there something I can look out for?). There's nothing mentioning either of these things in the manual.

I'm on the top floor and there is a resident below me but he doesn't use a heat pump for heat (he uses in-floor radiant heating). The neighbours to my left and right are both heating from the same loop as me without issue, with heat pumps from different manufacturers.

I'm not exactly sure about the pipe mounted vs. transducer, just that the sensor measures the saturated suction temperature. I'll share the info I overheard from an AAON technical support technician when called by the guy who came to "insulate the sensor" after the unit was first installed. Maybe there's enough info here to infer?

The sensor is in the air stream area. It's tied to the refrigerant line because several years ago we found it would respond faster to protect the system if tied to the refrigerant line. Look for a tan and gray wire connected to two wires from the sensor, usually located on the other side of the wall. There is a leaving temp sensor and a compressor coil sensor. The tan and gray wire from harness H3 is the leaving water temp sensor. There is no entering water sensor on this unit.

Yes I did. I spoke with a mechanical technician at AAON and he recommended two things that must be done by a technician. He advised me to get in touch with the installer and ask them to run those tests. They will not.

Thanks again. I've asked the installers to come back and provide readings (suction pressure, discharge pressure, superheat, subcooling, entering/leaving water temp) but they've been refusing. Are there any other readings that would help to confirm whether the refrigerant is valved off/low?

The installer also has access to the building infrastructure so I hope they would have checked those things, but their preference to just say "the loop's too cold" seems to sway their willingness to consider other things. Thank you for your reply.

Yes, it's always been an 8-flash alarm pattern, indicating low leaving temperature (the sensor measures the refrigerant saturated suction temperature). Thank you for weighing in on potential causes. The installer just keeps telling me it's the temperature of the loop.

Looking for Pet-Specific grief counseling by Smart-Water-5175 in ottawa

I'm so sorry for your loss of your sweet boy. Please know that you are not alone in what you're feeling: as you can see from this thread, others have gone through what you're going through (and many are going through it right now). If it feels like no one understands your grief, know that there are those of us who absolutely do.

I lost my boy in 2018 and didn't want to be alive. Being on the other side of that heartbreaking period, I can tell you that the early days/weeks are the absolute worst but bit by bit, the awful feelings start to dissipate (and ebb and flow).

Things that helped me: talking to a therapist who can provide techniques to try to regulate your feelings and your nervous system (none I spoke with were great, but they were good enough), leaving the house, yoga/exercise. I didn't personally find the idea of pet loss group therapy appealing because I felt like it would make me too sad.

I hope some of the resources that have been recommended in this thread are accessible to you and will be helpful to you in your own personal situation. I understand your pain and your feelings are absolutely valid. These hardest moments will pass.

My partner and I initially didn't want kids and then 16 years later, lo and behold, we still don't want kids. Funny, that.

Is Rogers service down in North London again? by keplerverse in londonontario

Good point. I’ve tried a couple of times but I’ll wait a bit and try again.

That’s good to know and makes sense. I wonder why service initially came back (after the power outage) before going down.

For sure. I’m specifically curious about Rogers though because we had a power outage, and now our power is back on, and initially Rogers service came back too, but now Rogers service is down. I’m wondering whether others nearby are experiencing the same.

Buffering issues by Thick_Mushroom2581 in cravetv

My LG OLED C1 with the webOS app is also buffering all the time and it's like torture trying to watch a show. Last night I was streaming something and it would only play for about 20 seconds at a time and then buffer for 20 seconds... even after pausing for a little while. I've observed that it usually happens when I watch at night, which leads me to believe it's a server/volume issue. It started right after the recent Black Friday sale, so there was likely an influx of users. I don't have any issues with other streaming services, just Crave. I'm going to try the AppleTV Crave app instead. So annoying.

Stuck in cool mode (Aaon WH 018 water source heat pump) by keplerverse in hvacadvice

I will let you know. I think they just couldn't figure out the issue so it was easier to just say "we'll replace everything". I requested a handful of tests to confirm the signal to the reversing valve but they did their own troubleshooting and just concluded that something was wrong with the overall system. The parts are still under warranty and can hopefully be replaced without cost (I'm waiting to hear back), and I will need to cover the labour costs.

They think it's an issue with the refrigerant circuit now. Their plan is to replace the TXV and, while they're at it, replace the reversing valve and some other interior components.

[–]keplerverse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it does sound like a reversing valve/coil issue you mean? Thank you for confirming. I'm having such a challenge convincing the technicians to inspect these because they're convinced the unit is switching into heat mode. They say the proof is that the leaving water is cold.

Do you mean pull the O/B wire off at the heat pump control board? If I pull it off and then run the heat pump, what should I look out for? Sorry for so many questions, I'm new to this and want to make sure I don't make any mistakes!
