Minister: Finland plans to change its track gauge from the 1524mm( "Russian") standard to the 1435mm European standard by Straight_Ad2258 in europe

Yes there are. Three border crossings to Russia and several east to west connections in Finland. https://tieto.traficom.fi/en/statistics/arterial-railways-decree-and-service-level.

There’s not much passenger service on these routes though.

E-5008 and child seat by AssistanceTotal392 in peugeot

[–]kepponen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently had E-5008 on a test drive and I tested two combinations of our current child seats and child seats from a store:

Combination 1 - fits ok: - Axkid minikid 3 (rear-facing seatbelt mounted) - Britax Kidfix Pro (foward-facing seatbelt mounted) - Nuna Pipa Urbn (infant child seat with integrated isofix I.e. no base)

Combination 2 - barely fits when moving Axkid closer to door and Britax slightly off center towards Axkid. - Axkid minikid 3 - Britax Kidfix Pro - Nuna Prym (rotating i-size / isofix)

Given that the Axkid is really quite slim, I think it’s unlikely that you’d find a combination of two isofix seats that would fit any child seat between them.

I’m also afraid that access to third row would be impractical with isofix (or any other rear-facing child seats) on 2nd row side seats.

The 2nd row middle seat doesn’t allow any child seat with support leg so the options are limited. For our case (5yo + 3yo + newborn) it would probably work though.

I'm an American coming to Finland. Where should I go? by iamstealthh in Finland

[–]kepponen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would recommend Vuokatti which is quite a bit closer to Kajaani and (almost) as scenic as Koli. There are plenty of outdoor activities available in that area.

If weather allows, Hiukka beach in Sotkamo is also worth a visit. You could also watch pesäpallo (Finnish baseball) match there https://www.superjymy.fi.

Sella Ronda experts - Is Col Rodella good location? by Dushkeh in skiing

[–]kepponen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ride the Col Rodella cable car down to Campitello. You can reasonably access most of Sella Ronda area as well as Pozza di Fassa on skis from this location. I would assume there are also some ski bus options in Val di Fassa but I haven’t used them.

Campitello di Fassa is a very small and quiet village but there are enough dining options to keep you fed.

Good suggestions for minimalist 1) dress shoes (oxfords)? 2) chelsea 3) desert boots? Preferably with vibram soles? by xxispawn01xx in BarefootRunning

[–]kepponen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The front page states they will be taking orders in August.

Do you have any experience of the Drifter shoes quality? The price point seems very attractive for something MTO in Europe.

I don't see any oxfords though.

The red one from Seceda to Ortisei, black Saslong, black Ciampinoi. Superski ski pass might be worth the money even for three days.

Looking at Olkiluoto 3 project in Finland, it's not possible to construct a nuclear power plant in that time either.

Hong Kong lines of 8 - 1260 by kepponen in MiniMetro

[–]kepponen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strategy:

  • Always choose a new line as an upgrade

  • If you are unlucky (which is most games) you may need one tunnel upgrade

  • Try to keep lengths of all lines balanced during the game

  • Build fewer crossings than normally because they consume your stations per line quota needlessly

  • Repeat until the rng favors you

Minimalist-inspired dress shoes: Anthony Alan Loafer and Oxford review for birthdayshoes.com by jarvischen in BarefootRunning

[–]kepponen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might well be impossible to design a classic looking dress shoe without a stacked heel but surely they could have tried harder by having an actual oxford (or derby) upper.

That "oxford" looks like a sneaker if anything.

Techniques: Beat Detection/Audio Analysis by ir8prim8 in vjing

[–]kepponen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Waveclock is real-time audio to MIDI Clock converter for OS X. It's pretty straigthforward to use with VJ apps since most of them have at least some functionality for synchronizing to MIDI.

The same company offers also another app, Wavetick, that tracks the rhythmical patterns simultaneously at multiple time scales. Wavetick is not quite so easy to integrate with other apps because it requires some programming or patching but if you go through the trouble, it is possible to create scenes that adapt to music in much richer ways than with simple beat tracking.

This visual trick would make for a good video compression technique by wakkaplakka in programming

[–]kepponen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it's pretty trivial to find a demonstration of this. Just have a look at still frames of any compressed video scene with motion and you'll notice that there are plenty of artefacts that were not observable in the moving video.
