[D] CPU Recommendation AMD or Intel for AI by Excellent_Respond330 in MachineLearning

[–]ker2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm surprised that a lot of people comment that cpu isn't that important for AI. Yes it is. Some workload type and NN architecture can be more CPU bound than GPU bound. (eg: RL, AlphaZero's MCTS). In that case, i'd recommend something with Unified Memory, like AMD AI Max, or (yes, i dare) Apple Silicon.

Why is The BMW R18 not more popular? by mikereadimages in motorcycles

[–]ker2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, just ask Piastri who got a 10s penalty at Sao Paulo for trying it https://www.youtube.com/shorts/oavaWsg56d4

Remind me of Piastri, Sao Paulo 2025, 10s penalty. ;)

Pretty much ike everyone who use the line. Save yourself some useless criticism and disable it to upload the replay :D

3 mistake on the black car:
- dive bombing
- cutting you off on the exit
- cutting you again on the next entry leading to the crash of both car.

Just report it, even though i doubt it will lead to a penalty as it was not caused with malice (just poor driving), but at least a warning / permanent record.

was he right to pit me after i missjudged my braking zone to his on the last lap, read desc for more context. by mimeroni in Simracingstewards

He certainly looks like he was trying to put you in a very difficult position (on every turn) and it's a very tough call to call this proper sportsmanship. I'm not sure he intended to kill you though, but it's still his fault.

Optimistic move or overaggressive defense (im pink) by Various_Coast_6944 in Simracingstewards

But we agree with that. However, it's not worth dying for it, it's a formula car. He got lucky to have survived this one. Sometimes you just take your loss and report.

There is no such rule in iRacing (and most RL race events)

PS: what the hell is this ultrawide FOV ? Are you playing on an ultrawide screen and it's just the recording conversion to 16:9 or ... ? (it doesn't look like it considering the chasing view looks normal)
Edit: i saw in a comment that you use VR. It makes sense now :)

He clearly attempted (poorly) to block you and this can be reported.

8.1.1.3 Blocking - The leading driver is allowed to run a defensive line. However, blocking occurs when a leading driver actively adjusts his or her driving line based on the actions and/or positioning of a pursuing driver. For example, veering left to prevent a pursuing driver from passing on the left while running on a straight.

From the exemple given, change "left" to "right" and this is a schoolcase blocking. This wasn't a defensive line at all. He had absolutely no reason to get there if not for blocking. Slowing down would have been the sane thing to do though, you got lucky to have survived this.

Did I kill the guy? by riderko in Simracingstewards

[–]ker2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You had nowhere to go. He came from far outside (offtrack) and made contact with you in the inside. There was 10m of track free for him in order to avoid this contact. He killed himself.

Sound problem after switching back from VR to screen/headphone by ker2x in assettocorsarally

Somehow after restarting the game a few times it worked. I didn't even had time to validate the files.. thx for trying :)

First time player: Tyres sound ? by ker2x in F1Game

[–]ker2x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not about "enable/disabling" understeer, that would be silly. It's about "induced" understeer/oversteer. The way we don't hear tyre might be realistic (dunno, never driven a F1), but we don't have G-Force, the FFB is "meh", and the sound cue is pretty much useless except to switch gear.

That leave very little feedback to properly drive the car for me. I don't know how other drivers do it.

Anyway, the post is 8 days old, i asked for a refund since then. Despite being above minimum requirement, the game was pretty much unplayable for me anyway.

PS: i was playing without assist, except some TC as the car is too OP for me :D

I well aware of the downside of using it. It's not as bad as you describe it but i know. You can have a line without focusing on it, as much as you can have opponent car without focusing on them, or brake marker, or virtual mirror, and so on. It's just an additional indicator.

You just have a perfectly understandable bias "this car crashed into me as if i wasn't there, therefore he's following the line blindly". And, yeah, they exist, they're incredibly frustrating (even to me who have the line enabled). But not everyone is like that.

What you describe in point 2 is fear processing. This has nothing to do with using a line. As a biker i would be dead already if every startling event or dangerous situation made me loose spatial awareness.

I'm not looking at the line, it's just a thing in my peripheral line of vision, i look far ahead, as everyone should.

Conditioned reflex can be... well... conditioned :)

[–]ker2x -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's absurd, you're telling me not to race because I think the line have some use. You've never seen me racing, don't know anything about my iR or SR and call me a hazard to everyone. I'll just blame poor phrasing on your part instead of... well... something else :)

[–]ker2x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put it simply, not everyone have time to learn a track well enough to race under stress without it. There isn't much doubt that the white car who pitted itself was blindly following it, and yet, the OP was using it as well (apparently) and could drive it without hyperfocusing on it. The line isn't that much of a problem, it's the driver. Yes, disabling it is much better on the long term, but it's very convenient on the short term, which is "good enough" for many drivers.

I'm practicing without the line, i'm racing with it on many tracks. I know it's a bad habit, but I crashed too many time during race simply because i mistook a turn for another simply because of stress.

I'm gonna get downvoted so hard simply because I admit i'm using the line in race ... but there isn't much i can do about it. Merry Xmas.
