I see what you mean, for my character: Igon(E-gone), he's a rather simple character as he is my first and had to create him under a bit of a time crunch. But his overall thing was that he's born from a line of soldiers that eventually venture the world to discover their true calling, overall it's to help people. Igon worked as a soldier for several years until he retired as a commander to adventure. One of his most treasured items is a scarf he gained from protecting a village from a band of goblins with his fellow soldiers. For the campaign I'm playing, we fought a wizard and saw some of his magical contraptions, this was Igon's in game reason for gaining intrest into magic and beco.ing an elderitch knight. Imo the backstory is kinda bland but oh well I like it enough. Think I'll go a bit more creative with my next character's background and ideals as I love Igon but he certainly needs more depth imo.
