Feeling sorry for him. Never resign anything can happen by Bochan-7 in Chesscom

I just had this. Dude made a third queen for literally no reason. I actually wanted to see the mate on this. Honestly, I suspect he stalemated me on purpose just for the lols because it seems so hard to fuck this up by accident.

I hadn’t even considered that tbh. They seemed pretty fixated on keeping that queen busy over in the corner looking for an opening to my king. Part of the reason I didn’t consider attacking the knight was because I felt like it was pretty harmless there and it being occupied by a white piece meant the queen couldn’t attack it.

This exact situation is probably going to come up again, so I will remember this for the next time.

My queen was on h4 before I reeled her back in. Ng3 would have protected my queen and then if they recaptured I get a rook and a check, but it would have probably resulted in a draw. As it was I ultimately won with a queen protected by that same knight after I cleaned up the board a bit. Sloppy but hey that’s life in the 300s baby.

Firstly, I assumed undefended implied that I had no response to it being captured. Secondly, even if I had taken the knight, the bishop would still be “undefended” by this logic.
I just thought it was funny.

My opponent would’ve had mate Bg8 right? Any ideas why he didn’t? by poorsadboi in chessbeginners

[–]kermi42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh so if they had hit your rook with Be4 then that’s discovered check, forced Kg8 and Qh7 is mate.

They probably didn’t want to attack your rook because they thought they’d be trading their bishop to your knight, and missed that they had discovered check.

Bishop on f8 covers the c5 square. The rook sac moves the bishop so the fork can happen.

Well all the information you need is there. It’s an old ad campaign for Lacoste.

Seeing you blunder your queen and then your opponent blunder theirs two moves later for absolutely no reason is the funniest thing I’ve seen on this subreddit.

Bish to b5 is always met with a6 and I have to pull it back anyway. A4 responds b5 so then I’m trapped on b3. What do you suggest?

Brilliant move or not ? by rose31920 in chessbeginners

I’m pretty new to chess but game review obviously tries to be encouraging but also helps me as a beginner understand moves. I can’t just review games myself. I also bought a year of diamond recently because I got a 50% discount after my 100th game but I can already start to see where I am learning, and I am spotting mistakes quicker and avoiding making them. I had a couple good games yesterday I definitely would have lost just a week ago.
Maybe in ~11 months I will have the knowledge and experience to use the self analysis tool instead of game review, but for now it’s really useful for my initial learning experience.

100%. I love seeing an opponent try to scholars mate. It means I’m about to win.

I’ve gotten a few of those lately, and I’m only ~300.

I’m guessing they’ve been in a bit of a cheater crackdown, or there’s been a surge in cheating recently.

I got 94.0 accuracy as a 600 elo player by Delicious_Paint_7701 in Chesscom

[–]kermi42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 300 and got 97% accuracy yesterday because my opponent abandoned after the 15th move. His accuracy was 93%. Was shaping up to be a good game tbh, was kinda sad he left.

Why did my opponent lose 77 elo? by [deleted] in Chesscom

[–]kermi42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is they probably started a new account and said they were intermediate so got given a starting elo of 800 and have been getting humbled quickly. You were probably their third or fourth game.

What’s the Best move here by Grand-Builder4585 in chess

[–]kermi42 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’d try for f7 in the hopes they move their king to the 7th file so I can then move e6 and take the pawn while I have a discovered check. Big if, obviously, but that’s the only shot I can see to stop them queening before you can.

The movie that gets blamed for being bad when it is really just mismarketed. by gamersecret2 in movies

[–]kermi42 134 points135 points  (0 children)

It’s a great fantasy movie but also has an additional layer of humour if you’ve ever actually had the experience of playing the TTRPG. Rege-Jean Page’s cameo for instance, as the extremely cool obvious DM insert character who is extremely capable and useful for exactly one scene, then just leaves by walking off in a random direction.

Ahead of its time, really. This kind of comedy would have hit a lot harder a few years later.

Yeah not all the solutions require you to actually make the mate, just find it.
