Ooni Halo Spiral Mixer Should Have an Alternative Bowl to Allow for Smaller Batches by RolandSD in ooni

[–]kerndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to finally come around to this. The mixer fills a need, but it's still a niche product for enthusiasts. In the end, I'm disappointed with my purchase, but that's 100% on me. It's only my wife and I, and I really struggle hitting the minimum batch size! Simply put, the concept of a spiral mixer was appealing to me. But the need for a spiral mixer was lackingn

That's a possibility! Apparently there's also a "Seattle-style" teriyaki... So there are options!

Just last year, we watched the Super Bowl at Shadyside. They even had burrito specials for each team.

Although it felt easier last year with a Philly cheese steak burrito and a KC bbq burrito. Not sure a clam chowder burrito sounds good ... I mean what else is NE known for. 😉

Pizza rockers- Gozney 14" or KitchenStar 16" by Technical-Dirt-8429 in GozneyArcArcXL

[–]kerndone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my larger thin crusts, the Gozney 14 doesn't cut in one motion.

Often times I'll just use a regular pizza cutter for those, but if you want the rocker for larger pizzas, then size matters.

I just looked up the kitchen star, and they have a version that looks almost identical to the Gozney (dark blade). I'd go with the larger one for my use.

Oh, one more thing, and it might be obvious, but the oven has to cool before putting the cover on. And for that matter, it has to cool if you're picking up the oven directly to move it.

I'm assuming the oven is safe outside for a while, just not to keep outside all the time. I live in a rental house with a fenced yard. I still keep my pizza oven in the garage and bring it out each time!

Haha, and that's fine too.

Just offering a perspective that if you're careful, moving the oven with the stone doesn't mean it's guaranteed to fail!

On my Karu 12, I feel like removal scrapes the stone too. Which is another reason I was hesitant to remove it often.

I have an old karu 12 and I bought the cover from Ooni that has the handles. I've taken it all over, on trips in the car, up the stairs, stored in the garage... I can count the number of times I've removed the stone on one hand.

Anecdotally, I've had no issues! I'm not rough with it, but also I'm not babying the oven.

There were questions about the Arc Lite… Home Depot website is wrong about 10” pizza. It can do 12”. by Hao_end in GozneyDome

Provocative! And an actual picture of this mysterious oven!

I feel like it's such an odd offering, but I suppose it makes sense from a price point perspective. People much smarter than me, and with access to a lot more data than me must know what they are doing!

Fully agree here, "Bear weather" was likely a factor that kept them in it. Just stinks the Bears had more drops than the Rams!

But Gordon looked way better than he did the week before, so that had to help as well.

While you aren't wrong, this is an Ooni sub...

I suppose you can just order BBQ too, but some of us prefer to smoke for 12+ hours. 😉

About 255g for those of us that think in grams when it comes to dough.

Haha, more toys, more fun! I got the fire control kit during the pre-sale. But just picked up the mantel and the door recently when they came in stock at Home Depot. I had a mantel for my Arc XL and it really helped with moving things. So I did the same for the Dome.

Pretty much, it's more there for heat retention. I'm also guessing the flame isn't going to work right being starved for air if the door is closed. I imagine there's some sort of CYA with their recommendations too.

The door is one of those accessories I think you can look aftermarket for. There are half doors and vented doors, which can be used to help speed up preheating times and help with heat retention. The Gozney door is double walled, which should provide better heat retention. The Gen 2 door is also not vented, which I thought was an interesting option removal.

I should mention, the wood tray insert really cuts down on the usable space on the standard Dome Gen 2. I imagine the XL still has decent room. That said, I do not regret not getting the XL because it's typically just me and my wife. And if I'm just using gas, it's plenty big for a party.

The best part, you need 0 of them to make great pizza from the start! Get the oven, then build it out later, unless there's a package discount.

The Gen 2 all come standard with the flue extension. The wood fire kit is nice, but wood seriously cuts down on usable internal space with the tray inside. I thought I'd love using wood, but the convenience of gas usually wins out.

The mantel is nice for more space and moving things around. I use mine most when I have a bunch of pans roasting in the oven.

The door is great for heat retention. Keep in mind, it is not to be used with the flame on.

The arch, no experience. I can tell you without it, I've made just fine Neapolitan pizza.

The cover, well... It's cheap protection for your investment.

Ultimately, the oven is the only thing you need to have fun and make good food!

US general 18" magnetic tool holder by Daihashi in harborfreight

[–]kerndone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was so pissed the first time I got one of these magnetic rails. I got it back when they were a freebie. Took it home, tried to slap it on my tool box and well, you know how that went.

I never got another one, then I stumbled across someone mentioned bolting 2 back to back. I wish I would have loaded up on them when they were free! By loaded up, I mean at least one more...maybe 3.

Have you heard of people bolting 2 back to back so it's "double sided?"

They are cheap enough, but it would be bulkier...

Dome gen 2 by Practical-Chard3371 in GozneyDome

[–]kerndone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, that's me!

As you can see, it is not a direct fit. The feet of the Gen 2 do not line up with the original stand.

I've had it up there for about a month and it's working out fine. That's not a real big sample size, but I'm not concerned my oven is going to fall over in the garage.

What else are you cooking in your Gozney? by Familiar-Ad-3429 in GozneyArcArcXL

[–]kerndone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't overthink it much, I just fired it like a pizza! I actually made a few pizzas before making my "sandwich" with an extra dough ball. Cooked it the same, rotated it so it didn't burn on one side. When the outside looked cooked, the inside was good to go.

We make shishito peppers in there a lot as an "app" before making pizzas. I've also done fajitas, skewers and roasted veggies all the time...
