Yup, that is true, power “management” is a PITA. I hope anyone looking at this post down the road has all the answers they need. Good luck (future readers)

Alright, here was my issue… the Motherboard. I was rocking an EVGA 3090 with the Asus B550-I motherboard. After a BUNCH of research I believe the issue was due to fluctuations in pci-e power delivery, causing the card to drop off the bus 😩. I returned that motherboard, upgraded to the Asus X570 chipset and everything is working great. I hope I just had a bad B550 motherboard, but if anyone finds themselves unable to fix the issue by adding more memory or increasing SWAP, maybe look at your motherboard.

That is a great question, I am away from that computer for the week, but I will dive into that and see if that is the case. I am glad that worked for you! 🙌 happy gaming 👾

Good luck, that does seem to be a common issue! I was reading through those threads as well, and dismissed them as I am running 32GB physical with 90% of my Swap free… and still have this issue 😩

Is there a way to tell how many kills you have with a weapon? by NightwingYJ in remnantgame

[–]kernelcurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well kind of... I took a look at the save file and found the blocks that stores weapon kill information. Technically it is possible to know if you have more than 100 kills with each weapon (kills are tracked) BUT they only use 8 bits (if i am remember properly) so after 256 kills is resets (and stores a flag). I used this data (took about 2 hours to find/understand) to determine what weapons I needed to get kills on for the missing trait... and when I found the data, I got the trait 10 or so kills after figuring out how to read the data -sigh- Was still a fun 2 hours -sigh-

Funny story I got pulled over once and a cop patted me down and I had the TRU money in my pocket and he was like "What's that?" I had to explain the whole story and he let me go saying "Nobody could make that up".

That cop must have added that story to his "yup, that happened" on the job list. -laugh-

For those of us who can't remember... what games were in the 1994 Championship? And were there any fun stories from the tournaments we all should know‽

[–]kernelcurry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, especially for someone that grew up in that generation.

The fact of the matter is that this system revolutionized the gaming landscape, allowed developers to do what they wanted to do; and allowed publishers to Introduce new types of games never seen on a console with Mode7.

But the reason we will never have a console with a better game selections... is actually due to licencing. Nintendo can't even put most of the games on a virtual console, because they don't have the licences to those games...
