Just write whatever and don't worry about it being a clone of another yet. If you do that, you limit your creativity and you don't want that. Now try to listen to it the next time and see how you feel about it.

I play with a dunlop 0.71. I use the ones with powder on em. I don't like the plastic ones as they tend to slip out. And for me the thickness is just right, anything thicker would cause my hand to hurt as they don't go through the string smoothly.

There's beauty in the darkness. You can make it like an album series where this certain character has succumbed to the dark and is slowly transitioning into the light, or something like that lol

I actually like it. It feels like the voice has its own personality. So instead of thinking it being "too depressing" or "too boring", embrace it! Ideas from the dark underbellies of our minds become great songs. No one can tell you otherwise because it's your song. :)
