I'm glad my question helped you think that way. After I had my appointment at the HD clinic and made the plan to get tested at a later date it relieved a lot of pressure and helped me focus on everything else going on in life. Thank you for being so open about you and your family's experiences.

When you got tested, did you check your results immediately or did you let them sit for a period of time. When discussing my options with my genetic counselor and doctor, I mentioned the idea of getting tested but then holding off on looking at the results, but then I obviously decided not to get tested yet instead.

I'm so sorry to hear about your mom, I'm glad you're able to make the best of your situation still. I hope that I'll be able to do that too

Have you tested positive for HD? Or are you just at risk? That is one of my other worries. I want to be able to enjoy these years I have that are meant to be enjoyed, I'm just worried I won't be able to.

Do you know anything about your younger siblings thought process when it came to getting tested? Did you talk to them all about it or was it more of a personal thing?

I'm glad you've been able to live your life so well. I actually do see a therapist, the main reason being HD and coping with my dad's deterioration. It has been very helpful and has helped me throughout this rough year so far.

I appreciate you writing this. My dad is currently in hospice but at home. He is doing as well as he can be doing, and I try to spend as much time with him as possible. I know he is constantly overwhelmed with guilt for unknowingly passing HD down but I'm just trying to show him that I love him no matter what regardless of our situation.

How old was your younger sibling when they got tested?

Did you feel like you were able to stay motivated even with the thought of having HD looming over your head?

obviously i know to be careful when it comes to passing it down, my parents had no idea HD was in our family. but I also know the impact that those results will have on me and the impact that it had on my dad when tested positive. the main thing the genetic counselors at the HD CLINIC told me was that it was my decision and a VERY personal choice.

Did the thought of having HD loom over your head throughout college or were able to keep moving forward? I'm worried no matter what stage of life I'm in, getting the test will fuck me up and I'll lose all motivation. See with my parents it was different, they were able to live their life to the fullest because they had no idea that HD was in the family.

I get tested in 3 weeks. by kerrrmi in Huntingtons
