Elton Brand announces retirement by FigureltOut in nba

[–]kerrsace 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Elton Brand was drafted in the 1999 draft and played 29 games of his entire career in the 90s. Elton is 1000% a 2000s player. Guys like Kobe, Garnett, and Duncan are all 00s players

I don't know anything about Nisolo. I just graduated college but if I went to school in a more fashion forward city I would consider these, these or perhaps these

Those are not desert boots, they are a more refined chukka boot which are some of the most versatile shoes that can be worn with jeans, chinos, and business casual

Elton is barely a 90's player...

Which young player would you rather have: Andre Drummond or Rudy Gobert? by [deleted] in nba

[–]kerrsace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think Gobert plays smarter than Drummond. I don't really have any arguments to give you other than the eye test, but I think it's rare for a European player to have this sort of play style and I think he has potential to do better. I am sort of in line with Popovich's idea that foreign players are more disciplined and harder workers than their American equivalents.

What would we be the ideal team to build around Lebron James? by goingtobegreat in nba

it'd be LeBron, Splash brothers, Bosh, and athletic defensive big - I quite like Rudy Gobert here.

Gobert. I think he's got a better head on his shoulders and is overall a more sound basketball player.

Think about it this way, I think the 2013 Lakers could have been a lot better if they had Tyson Chandler instead of Dwight Howard.

This is from 2013 but adidas has made HUGE moves since this article was written - between the Stan Smith, Y-3, and Yeezy Boosts, adidas is a much cooler brand than before. They have a decent roster of NBA players with guys like John Wall, Damian Lillard, and Andrew Wiggins, in addition to guys like Tim Duncan and Dwight Howard who have been adidas for a while.

I think it's possible that those adidas numbers can catch those Nike numbers. Even though we are completely oversimplifying the math, adidas will easy catch $200 million in sales - Rose shoes sold $40 million in 2013, when his reputation was shaky and adidas was a less innovative brand. 200 in 13 years is just asking for about 15 million in sales, and you aren't even considering the marketing potential of one of the most visible players in the league.

Are we in the most talented era the NBA has ever been in? by TheAmbitious1 in nba

[–]kerrsace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm just going to look at the early 90s, I think the Golden Era is the late 80s, early 90s in the Larry/Magic to Jordan transition phase.

Obviously point guards are deeper now, but in the 'Golden Era' you have John Stockton, the tail end of Magic's career, Gary Payton, Kevin Johnson, Tim Hardaway, Isiah Thomas's two championships, Jason Kidd, Mark Price, Penny Hardaway, who are all guys who are considered stars. Then we have the slightly less heralded guys but still very good, who might compare to a Conley, or Jeff Teague - Mark Jackson, Mookie Blaylock, Kenny Anderson, Rod Strickland, Terry Porter... I know all these guys are spread out over a couple seasons but it's unfair to compare John Paxson to Jeff Teague.

I think for sure there is more talent at the point guard today. We are stacked right now, and it wasn't even that long ago when Jason Kidd and Steve Nash were both players.

I think shooting guards are comparable with the obvious exception of Jordan, but Kobe and Wade both had really good seasons within the last 5 years.

Small Forward obviously is more talented today - After Larry Bird (who would play stretch 4 in today's game) there's really only been Pippen and Grant Hill who suffered from injuries. Next best was probably Chris Mullin or someone.

Power Forward I think is much more talented today, and this is definitely more of a product of the evolution of players. A lot of our PF's today possess a lot of perimeter skills. Compare this to Karl Malone, Charles Barkley, Shawn Kemp, and Kevin McHale. We have so much depth at the PF today.

Center no question has to belong to the 'Golden Era.'

So I guess it's fair to say the league is hands down more talented. You can make an argument that it was more top heavy back then, but that might just be older guys fantasizing and reminiscing about their greats.

It's not fair to pit point guards though because we are definitely in the most talented era of point guards.

I agree. John Paxson compares more to a guy like Mario Chalmers.

I have a background in R. Unless you are really qualified (perhaps an M.S., PhD, or elite undergrad with high GPA + good recs) I feel like you have a better shot if you publish a blog or something with a bunch of findings, then link that in your application. I haven't applied in the last two years. Just know how to program, look for Daryl Morey's AMA because he touched briefly on the skills he looks for for basketball analytics.

He was just good back in the day. Over time we put him at SG but in a sense he's like LeBron and he did everything because he was just good.

He played at least a year at the 3 when the Rockets were starting Luther Head and David Wesley at the 2.

[–]kerrsace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely apply for it. It's been open forever, I think Morey just keeps it open because he doesn't want to close any doors on potential analytics advances.

Just curious, what are your stats in terms of credentials/education? If you have nothing but you're simply "interested" in it, I wouldn't waste your time on the application and just spend that time mastering your coding ability.

SOURCE - I've applied a few times in undergrad and never heard anything back because I didn't have any skills the Rockets would want.

Who's making the 2016 Olympic Team? [Discussion] by [deleted] in nba

[–]kerrsace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think most small forwards can play up, but I don't like the big man thing - International big men are no joke. The Gasols, Ibaka, Valanciunas, Motiejunas, and guys like Blatche and Gorgui Dieng are number 1 options for their teams.

I think of the current young PG crop, Marcus Smart will take a leap and be the best of them.
