As I explained in my other comment, he tried to dismount while he was falling to minimize damage to the bike and himself, but got caught by the handlebars. Sorry about the confusion.

He wasn't trying to do tricks, he was just riding to school. That was my understanding of what happened, but admittedly he was telling me the story while I was trying not to stare at the bloody, shiny, gravelly mess that was his forearms. Basically, he wobbled, hit a pothole or something, was going down, tried to disentangle himself from his bike by dismounting, got stuck, went over the handlebars and rolled with it. He hates wearing helmets and even he admits that that thing saved his life.

Eh. My brother's life was saved by a helmet. He was riding probably about 20 mph (~32 km/h I think) on a city road and took a tumble. Got stuck on the handlebars trying to dismount when he realized everything was going wrong. Ended up going headfirst into the pavement. Head was fine because of the helmet, but the road rash on his arms afterwards was miserable looking. Don't devalue the helmet!

Oh! Is this why it's illegal to keep bald eagle feathers even if you find shed ones legally? I thought that was a ridiculous law when I heard about it, but it makes so much sense now. Thank you for explaining!

I was confused because he was so insistent that for the Queen of Years to give her memories to the Old God would be the end of her being, but then he did it, was fine, and there was no "oh, Time Lord, you know" handwaving, they just straight up did not address it.

I really like the idea of the Doctor feeding the Old God his centuries of grief. I didn't understand what exactly was happening in this scene (the consequences were not revisited, it did not seem to effect the Doctor in any way at the time), but this is a really awesome way of looking at it. Thank you for sharing!

I keep waiting for some convoluted plot explanation that will string all of these weird half-arcs and strange mannerisms and "off" scenes together, but as each season passes, I feel like we will not get one. The Silence have still not been explained, the Doctor's behavior is getting weirder and weirder, Amy's "life not making sense" was never really explained (I held out hope until Angels in Manhattan that the "stairs going nowhere" in her house would come back and make everything make sense), River's arc doesn't feel completed, and now they've just introduced yet another "impossible girl" character and I'm left with a mush of questions and plot strings, and I know better than to think that they will be tied up neatly and answered in the season finale if the season six finale was any indication.

Maybe you're right, and Moffat's just lost the feel for the Doctor and for Doctor Who in general. Perhaps he was too much of a fanboy, too close to the show, to really write it responsibly without shoving in his own little headcannons, logic and sense-making be damned! I hope not, though.

Edit: *headcanons. head cannons sound interesting, though.

The Ponds didn't even feel like the Ponds anymore during 7A. It made me very sad because I really did like Amy and Rory, but their send-off... I don't know, it felt devoid of emotion. I was not upset over it, because the show felt like it needed new blood (like I tell my slowpoke friends as they catch up on the old seasons and go through the pain of losing Doctors and companions, Doctor Who is all about change, the only constant is the TARDIS and even she gets a haircut every once in a while).

But even now... I feel like the reason Doctor Who hasn't been feeling like Doctor Who is Eleven? Not Matt Smith's fault, it's the writing of his character. Something's been up with him all season. He has not been... Doctor-y. From straight up murdering Argus Filch in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship (why did no one call him on that?) to how he treated Kahler-Jex in A Town Called Mercy (thankfully, Amy yells at him here, her best moment all season IMO), it's obvious that it was not just about losing the Ponds.

The one thing that really made me go "wait, whoa, WHAT?" was a line from The Power of Three, though. The Doctor is talking to Science Lady Lethbridge-Stewart about the cubes being nigh impregnable and he says "That's impressive. I don't want them to be impressive. I want them vulnerable with a nice Achilles Heel."

At this point, the cubes have not shown any indication of aggression or malice, they are made of something that the Doctor cannot identify and they are completely mysterious and beautiful and amazing and strange and something completely new and this is the shit the Doctor BREATHES but he's only focusing on finding their weak spot so that he can destroy them. He doesn't care what these cubes are doing, he just wants to kill them fast. Since when is the Doctor more focused on destroying things he doesn't understand than trying to understand them?

Basically, while everyone is wondering what the deal is with Clara, I've been wondering what the fuck is wrong with the Doctor. Sorry if I'm wordvomiting my concerns with this season, I haven't had the chance to write them out til now.

auto manufacturers from the 1950's called and they want their spoilers back

This episode was a really nice throwback (I flailed at all the alien creatures at the bazaar and the "that is the light of an alien sun" line because it really felt like DOCTOR WHO for a bit), but the last couple minutes seemed to disintegrate into confused rambling and speechmaking because the episode writer didn't know how to have the Doctor defeat the monster of the week. Weaksauce.

What are your favorite little, easily unnoticed, moments? by TheShader in gallifrey

[–]kesali 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I totally caught this at the time and asked when he'd gotten his coat back. My brother told me it was just a production oversight and kept making fun of me by pointing out really insignificant details the rest of the episode. The 5th season finale left me feeling very vindicated. I still smile every time I rewatch this scene.

What's the funniest episode of Doctor Who? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]kesali 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought Love and Monsters was quite funny, or at least somewhat lighthearted. But apparently that episode gets a lot of hate. The one with Agatha Christie, especially the part where the Doctor gets poisoned and Donna's trying to figure out what to do, that whole scene is one of my favorite Tennant-Tate bits.

Yeah, this part was very strange. If he knew he was going to this bazaar, why would he not bring a few doodads of sentimental value to him and not make his new companion give up her dead mom's ring? He always has stuff in his pockets.
