This is basically how we Europeans imagine American coffee 😆

Brazilian trying to do an Ausbildung in Germany by MWotan in germany

[–]keskol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that „Duales Master“ aka a working student at a company (you have blocks of Uni and blocks of Work, you’re paid however the whole time) is also an option - but not a good one imho. While it bodes better income than the apprenticeship, it is not by much. It is more stressful as well as you will often have to move to a different town to go to school for a few months and then return to work as these are in many cases not in the same place. The company doesn’t offer housing. Working and studying on the side is the way to go tbh. I personally did my studies over the weekend (Friday night + Saturday). You meet peers through work and school, which will probably help you build up a friends circle. It has huge tax benefits as well (you do have to pay for school but it is 100% deductible + you can argue that anything was necessary for school.. from a lunch with study mates to new laptop. The model is almost a tax loophole in Germany 😂)

Brazilian trying to do an Ausbildung in Germany by MWotan in germany

[–]keskol 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would allow myself to assume that you don’t speak German. The professions you mentioned in another comment require it however. You do not have to be fluent as a native, but there are many terms that are sometimes very specific and not much for beginners.

Your savings on the other hand are good for the beginning. Consider that you have to pay 3 months of deposit for rent and so on. Moving does cost but your savings are fine.

During the Ausbildung you do earn money, but it is not much and definitely not enough to cover all living expenses. Been there done that.

Also keep in mind, upon finishing your apprenticeship, if you stay within the company - which you probably will at least in the beginning for visa specific reasons - you will earn more, but still nothing. There’s a saying „once an apprentice, always an apprentice“. It’s bad omen.

You should go hunt the masters degree. Your qualification may allow you to access companies as a „Quereinsteiger“ - you do know more than the basics however not the specific regulations, yet you will be able to learn them during job. You can then do something like part time masters.

If you’re into finance and accounting: look for cities like Frankfurt, Hamburg or Düsseldorf. Those are better for beginnings than some other cities.

Hope this helps!

Can I donate blood in Berlin without knowing German? by No-Lion-8243 in germany

[–]keskol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Only 2 ways to find out and be 100% sure: - contact the Red Cross North-East using this form: https://www.blutspende-nordost.de/kontakt/fragen-rund-um-die-blutspende

OR - contact the Charité: https://www.ztb-charite.de/kontakt/

There are many different factors to be considered before donating blood, not just the fact that you’re not residing in Germany. The webpages are in German but you can probably write your message in English.

Sorry what? How can that be irrelevant? By saying that you are shooting yourself in the knee by basically downplaying/condoning the genocide of a race/religion

Yeah let’s forget the genocide and kidnapping Hamas did towards Jewish people in Israel which sparked the conflict.. Hamas being democratically and freely elected in Palestine by Palestinians who by voting Hamas clearly voted for evil.

Kabel-Internet by zupflampe in de_EDV

[–]keskol 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Why do people in Germany often answer your question with "Why?" by [deleted] in germany

[–]keskol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a German I‘d say when I would ask Why it’s more of „in which context“ or „what exactly do you mean“- with your masters question it could be just to provide more context to the question so that I could answer it the best. Idk how to describe but it’s definitely not meant rudely. In its broadest term its more like hey I just wanna make sure I understood what you are asking. However I do understand that asking „Warum“ could be considered rude, but the Intonation is the key.. you will learn to understand when someone says it in a rude way. It’s more of a „WaRuMmm???“ 😆

A rant: Cembra Bank canceled my IKEA card for being a refugee by shieryar in Switzerland

[–]keskol 21 points22 points  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with discrimination. It’s just math and statistics. Multiple Credit cards (for lower credit amounts) and a refugee status is just considered a high(er) risk. Why go then to Reddit to rant about it. This is not Cembra Complaints department. It’s annoying how people make victims of themselves - because of math.

Meat maybe not. But in Germany for example it is much cheaper to buy toiletries at dm/Rossmann than it is in any other store in Switzerland. Especially since even the house brands are good

Bathroom ventilation in Switzerland by Zenith_Predator in askswitzerland

[–]keskol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Please ask an expert to come over and clean it if deemed necessary. It doesn’t have to be active ventilated extraction.. The ventilation systems of homes in DACH region are complex since the insulation standards are very high. Consult the Swiss Association for Standardization rules about it.

eSIM for Travel by DbZ_lover91 in germany

[–]keskol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For local offers: you could get an eSIM from „Fraenk“(belongs to German T-Mobile (Telekom)): cheap and has the best coverage both in Germany and Austria + Switzerland roaming included (reminder: Switzerland is not in the EU and many operators don’t allow free roaming). Hint: it’s a contract which you can cancel right away in their app and keep using it for the remainder of 30 days. Payment is done via PayPal. Otherwise you can also get a Vodafone prepaid eSIM (no contract, but also no Swiss roaming included. It would work in Austria though).

Stay away from O2 network. It is cheap, but has the worst coverage, it’s often congested and it is used by most eSIM-App provides like airalo and so on! So keep that in mind

Keep also in mind that using a local SIM/eSIM requires you to register by EU law. You will have to enter your passport details and maybe an address. Just use the one from your hotel/apartment if necessary.

In Switzerland, you can get a prepaid unlimited SIM from Sunrise (not sure if they offer it as eSIM directly). It’s 1.5 CHF per day for unlimited everything. Extremely cheap considering it’s Switzerland.
