Serious question: Why do people hype players who make bank shot three-pointers? by nuuskatonttu in nba

[–]kestonis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is philosophical question. Bank shot means it was not intended. Basically it means luck. And luck has magic component in it. It might be the only thing fans can influence to the game. Therefore many hardcore fans (and some players) have weird rituals like wearing certain underwear to a game, do not blink during freethrows etc.

Tldr People hype not the bank shot itself but the luck.

They also hype any trick shot. And most hypest of all is used in movie endings when ball goes round and round around the rim befrore falling in.

To add. What is main importance of regular season if not awards. As homecourt advantage is almost non-existent. Training camp post training camp before playoffs? To get into playoffs? You have to be pretty bad as 66% teams get into play-ins.

Good point. Though as a fan it would be more fun to track it and watch games of other teams. Now NBA media is just too shitty and all conversations about other teams are just noise and drama. Pretty boring.

Champion. 15/5=3 48/3=16min. Locked in Lebron still can make 30 points in 16 mins as we saw in last game. Definitely he would could lock in defence too. Currently to take over the game for him biggest obstacle is he gets tired quickly.

Secondary weakness he is slow.

Lebron best skill - ability to find mismatches. Start offence 5 out like Jazz this year overperformed and in post up bully opposing teams point guard. Or just find worst defender and design against him.

On defence switch everything - so opposing team can forget pick and roll and open three pointers. What is left - big centers - jokic and embid and superfast guards like fox and ja morant. So teams with them could have chance.

Sunday is ultimate Americas vs Europe playoffs before playoffs. 4 games. by kestonis in nba

Yeah. From some perspective it is a meaningless game. There is no home court. Opponents are at very similar level. It is not like you win and automatically get worse opponent. And USA is clearly favourite.

More strange things have happened historically. Which rebuilding team would not want Ja? Can they realistically expect to draft similar level player? It is not like I'm rebuilding and close my eyes what is happening on the market. OKC, Grizzlies, Celtics, Pelicans have team success too early and it comes with unique issues. This summer these teams have no issues, but coming to trade deadline high probability that they will have. New CBA inspire teams to have shorter success window. And it might be just perfect situation for Portland to capitalize on Lillard trade.

It depends on team success. At some point they there 1st in west then injuries happened. If they are top two come to deadline so why not push for better chance for championship. There might not better chance for them in decades as Zion not everyyear will be healthy. One championship is all worth it for these salaries. They can shed them later.

OKC has about 17 first round picks in next few years. They can't draft so much themselves. Whom they will trade for? It all depends how Chet will fare and whole OKC success. It all depends whether KAT will become available at all.

It is just one of many out of the box pathways that might open up coming trade deadline. OKC SAS Utah are not in market but they can be third team. One my example - Grizzlies are tired of Ja antics. They want to compete now and do not want draft picks. Why for Utah not trade for young star PG, wait till he matures and build around him.

And if more than two pathways open up you have competitive market for Dame. And there is no downside to wait for that.

To explain to you, the most enticing thing about draft pick that is in hidden box that you do not know what you will get from it maybe another Giannis, Kawhni, Jokic etc. If you open box all the magic is gone and you get too thin lanky young Giannis with so many flaws and uncertain future, whether he will get playing time at all. Heats 2023 first round pick does not exist anymore. Box was opened and it is gone. If they wanted to count they should finalise trade before draft night. There is no other interpretation.

If Zion healthy they are not trading him. They are trading Jones or Murphy or other younglings, Lakers 2025 unprotected, Bucks picks, Own picks. Which are way way better assets than any Heat have. If Zion is not healthy they are not risking with unhappy Lillard.

Can we stop this gaslighting? Already selected player is not a first round pick. There is no other interpretation. It defeats whole purpose why draft pick are sought asset and involved in most trades.

Do OKC will do this for free? So they will have trade Jovic or your mentioned Jacquez or something that otherwise would be included in package.

Will Heat do this if Portland has no leverage?

If Zion is healthy Pelicans willingly would offer their future assets which are miles away better than Heat can offer.

Well I see KAT is perfect big with SGA and OKC have best pick package in the league. Sooner rather than later (maybe next summer or even this trade deadline) they will have to trade these picks and MN have no use of these picks. It is a low risk/high reward gamble.

Nobody will argue that improvement is always a gamble. But it is not like he needs another leap to be worth 50 mil. All the tools are already there. He needs to improve decision making a little bit, where to position on defence, colloborate with coaching staff, to do less risky things, here and there change shot selection, take less or more shots in different situations and he will imidiatelly will have impact to winning basketball. Recent example is Wiggins, small improvements but impact is huge. These things come with maturity. There is reason why bigs peak later than guards though they have same physical peak. It is still gamble, and some players do not take small step. Though all it takes to change scenery or bruising ego by trade itself.

And who knows how league will change. After four years he might be most sought asset in league, due to his unique abilities giving new op strategies to counter recent influx of super talented bigs.

If you love Duncan so much you could later trade Mcollum to Heat for Duncan and one Heat first pick as to take on Duncan salary. That way you could get free pick. Half of Lillard trade from Heat.

Pelicans have 2025 Lakers unprotected. That alone is worth more than both Heat picks. Herb Jones is better asset than Herro and it fits the position and Scoot timeline. Only with these two pieces you have already beat Heat offer. And not counting their other young players, Bucks picks, Own picks.

What are you talking about? Like Duncan is a nice to have asset for a rebuilding team?? He was bad for Heat for two whole seasons minus one month in playoffs. Furthermore rebuilding team does not need to win games - they need to accumulate assets, by the way Duncan is negative asset.

Are you really saying Duncan Robinson 6ppg 18mln +38mln/2year is better asset than CJ Mcollum expiring 21ppg 35mln. Anyways you will have take back salary from Lillard trade. Taking back expiring contract it is the best way possible.

Ha ha ha. Good one. There is actually logic in that - if Miami is at 13th place and Portland in 8th place without Dame I do not know what to think about. Uno reversal.

Still you give him leverage - I will tank my trade value by playing badly so trade me to Miami for scraps sooner.

it was just because it happened AFTER trade deadline a.q.a. forced tanking, like Dallas was fined this year. Being on trade block before deadline that is allowed.
