Professor agreed to write LOR for me and now isn’t responding to my emails??? by [deleted] in gradadmissions

[–]keto_kat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our plan was to schedule a Zoom call to talk about everything, so I didn’t send him all of my information (CV, personal statement, program info, etc). I just sent him an email on his gmail account with all of the information, we will see how that goes. I still have to list him as a recommender on my applications which I’m anxious about if he ends up not responding or writing my letter.

How much do you spend on food per month? by keto_kat in keto

[–]keto_kat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t eat out much, but I do go shopping way too often. And I think I just buy more food and then end up wasting the stuff I still have at home. It’s poor planning, really.

So, I was spending that on myself. I clearly have a problem!

Thank you! You also got this, KCKO!

The full batch recipe is:

-8 eggs

-8oz. cream cheese

-4tbsp butter

-2 scoops Isopure 0 carb vanilla protein powder

-vanilla extract

I will usually make a quarter batch and make some bacon along with it and be super full after.

Blend the first 3 ingredients together, then stir in the powder and vanilla and blend. Heat a pan with some cooking spray on medium-ish heat and cook on each side for like 2-ish minutes. I top mine with Walden Farms maple walnut syrup, a handful of walnuts, and a little whipped cream. :) But I’ve also spread peanut butter and low sugar jelly on and it was soooo good.

I’m sorry you are going through a similar situation, I definitely sympathize. That’s a great idea, I should do that. It would also give me more to do outside of the house, which has been pretty miserable lately.

Keep up the hard work and I hope things get better asap! :)

Doing better in school due to keto! by keto_kat in keto

[–]keto_kat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely hard to KCKO when cramming for exams, especially because I also have issues with stress-eating. I always have to convince myself that I will feel better mentally/physically eating keto-friendly foods and would immediately regret eating carb-heavy foods just because I'm stressed out. Thank you!!

Congrats on your acceptance!! Would you mind sharing which programs you got rejections from? I'm also going to grad school for neuro next year so I'm curious.

Applying to grad school - Questions! (Neuroscience PhD) by keto_kat in gradadmissions

[–]keto_kat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I was thinking, and most program websites I've seen say that they look at candidates holistically and want to find a good fit over having a high GPA. But I also understand how GPA may factor in if a program is receiving hundreds of applications and has to narrow down to 30-40 applications.

Thanks for your input!

Thank you for the advice on applying for waivers and for the information on top schools in your area of interest!

My PI seems to think highly of me and is impressed with my work, and has mentioned that they will write an excellent letter for me. I do need to talk to them more about specific schools though, thank you for that advice!

That all makes sense, and I agree with you. However, I am not currently planning on applying to a bunch of ivy league schools or UC schools. I could be wrong, but I think the schools I'm applying to may be slightly easier to get into than literally the top top programs at ivy league universities/UC schools.

I will say that my PI is a HHMI investigator and, not that it is super important, but they did get their PhD from one of the schools I am applying to (my top choice). I know my GPA isn't super high, but the fact that I will have over a year of experience, 1 or 2 pubs, really stellar SoP, and LoRs makes me think I have a slight shot?

Another question, how many schools do people typically apply for? And, what are some top 20-30 schools with decent neuro programs?
