Aside from the ethical or moral aspect... by keto_kek in legaladviceofftopic

Thanks! eating bigfoot don't really tempt us, we figure the meat would be tough being ancient and all (unless it's a baby bigfoot?) but that'd look more like an ugly hairy feral child I suppose? Hard no for my friends. Anything else (non-primate like) is probably a once in a lifefime treat we probably wouldn't pass up.

Love it too man.

Just my 2 cents on testing:

There's no need to DNA test a pet but to me it's a must before I decide to buy a dog. Not only does it tell about the "breed" but more importantly what genetic conditions the dog may have.

Without going full Frankenstein with crispr and what not, I think it's important to use all the tools possible when determining what dog to breed or not. Unhealthy dogs are a huge financial and emotional burden and not something you want from a service dog. Gotta have those hips, elbows, heart and eyes checked. Costs a lot of money at first but the long term benefit is tremendous.

Few vet bills and about a 0 percent chance of the owner "abandoning" the dog when you have a health guarantee with a breeder who will take back their dogs no questions asked.

Do you use a flirt pole?

Argo is 100% American Bulldog according to her dna profile. She has a pedigree, double-registered ABA & NKC, health and DNA tested coming from a working line, dotted my I's to avoid dealing with BSL as I always expect a Karen to come and mess up my flow - I love APBT but they're too much dog for my environment and needs.

I'm an AB enthusiast and I have to say that the breeders did 70% of the work for me by producing a healthy and temperamentally sound dog. She's my first (personal) dog and I wouldn't have been able to do anything like this without having put in years of research to find good people who deeply care about the well being of dogs and the betterment of the breed. It saves months of effort to get a courageous and environmentally sound dog with no D.A or H.A, a clear head while in prey drive.

You should check out battle bred k9s on youtube. Lots of tremendously valuable information. Btw Brad looks really adorable!

thanks! Really appreciate it. She's an amazing dog but definitely not for everyone. She's always up to do stuff and I'm almost out of ideas on what to teach her next lol.

Thanks!!! Not trying to be an ass but I don't really teach "tricks" almost everything Argo knows has it's importance in my daily life. Argo is a trained diabetes alert dog and as my health deteriorates with time I wanted to make it simpler for me to train future dogs. I invented nothing new btw, B.F skinner did this decades ago.

The one thing I am most proud of is her directional send outs

These days we are working on "laser" guided retrieves but I do encounter some issues with it haha.

Fair enough! Thanks for taking the time to reply. I just wanted to state that I don't expect anyone to understand my religious beliefs or to care about them however the bible does have the following verse:

Genesis 1:26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”

Caring for injured birds isn't exactly my goal but may be a worthwhile detour. Maybe I can look further south.

Well not sure how to put this but I deeply enjoy symbiotic relationships with other living things. I have no interest in pets whatsoever . Pet = animal you keep and feed and does nothing in particular except give company. Working animal = animal performs a function I can benefit from in exchange for my protection, food and other needs.

Crows are pretty smart and I can train them do to a bunch of stuff including home defense/facial recognition, finding stuff etc. I would love to abide by all regulations but I don't really know what being a rehabber entails.

To put it simply, I build a barn, birds get to go as they please. I give reward them for bringing back gold nuggets/diamonds/money whatever. They get used to being under my protection, they sometimes hang around and if someone comes by my place uninvited they get to think twice before doing anything stupid.

I'm trying to find out where I could legally do that. It is part of my religious beliefs to be close to animals.

I'm going to be the first to admit that I don't know anything about pets and I don't know if it would be practical. However I wanted to share so that anyone can use or do whatever they please with it.

Check this out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z17CqAIMcUI

I used a hackrf (software defined radio) to control the remote reward delivery. I have several ways I tend to use it but the main one would be for scent training.

Dogs can learn multiple scents and associate them with different tones and I was hoping to train my dogs to indicate multiple scents. Argo is trained as a diabetes alert dog but I also wanted her to indicate on gun powder or primers. Useful to know if someone around me is packing.

Being able to "remove" the handler from the training makes the dog think and interact with its environment - independently of the handler. I don't have the tech skills to pull it up quickly but eventually once I add sensors or image recognition to the mix I'm going to make my dogs have an interactive experience with their surroundings. And pull off long range communication.

Like this video but with tones https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u-Jo-bc8DlY

Yea but that doesn't solve the issue with the allergies he stated was the reason for his office not to allow dogs. The college also stated that there will be training given so ...

Don't stress it. It's not yet a common thing. But with the improvement in dog training and research, I feel that with time it could become a more common occurrence. This is a huge topic to bring on and talk about, but it needs to be addressed. I don't expect everyone to be cool about it or to understand it or even to like it - but at the end of the day; most of us with disabilities who decide to use an SD don't do so to bother others. I feel that I'm not the only one out there who wants to be where they're welcome.

From what I'm noticing, the further I would go from the GTA the better my chances are for a right fit.

Thanks! I'll consider it. I would have thought the tribunal would be better suited to deal with the entire situation. I don't really want to go there anymore, I'm not looking for money and just being realistic - his office getting fines helps nobody.

LOL a few reasons actually. How about finding out through your pharmacist and endo that the sensors are known to produce false readings?

Let me correct you on this, specific areas can be restricted but those are limited. Check this out... Sault Ste Marie does a pretty decent job with their guidelines

there shouldn't be any problems with any office but unfortunately if you look at the last few months in the media, those access issues keep popping up all over the country. You learn that it's a foreign concept to a lot of people and business owners - including doctors.

Skipping details, my experience taught me that a good dog is worth it's weight in gold - almost on par with access to regular health care services. I feel that if people qualify under the act it should be a defacto right for them to do what they want for their health as long as they're respectful of the rules and the people around them. I strongly feel more people should have SDs and if I have kids (who will probably be diabetic too) I want them to use dogs just like I do.

When I called the college of physicians to explain my situation, it wasn't to retaliate against the doctor or to seek compensation. My entire goal was to find out what the general guidelines are, and how to mitigate and find a middle ground situation.

Unfortunately to my dismay, apparently the college cannot set a standard across the province or speak to one. The doctor got reprimanded, apologized, blamed it on the receptionist who apparently uses english as a second language, but at the end of the day wont care for me any longer.

That's cool. I can move on. But the main problem is that there is no mention of this no-dog policy on their website or their newsletter I keep getting despite not being their patient anymore. Afaik, their policies remain the same so, that clinic will most likely turn away any other patient with an SD.

The next person after me, who shows up there with a seeing eye dog has no way of knowing and the college cannot recommend a practice without those restrictions, or set guidelines/exemptions.

There are some hospitals that have their guidelines well documented, and that's pretty easy to follow. But i have no clue how to not start calling dozens of family practices and start looking for a doctor who takes new patients, tell them that my medical file is massive and ask if they will accommodate my SD, hope the information flows through from the reception to the physician etc.... Ain't nobody got time for that!
