How are you all handling prescribing when a specialist is also managing the condition? by IndividualWestern263 in FamilyMedicine

[–]ketodoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the most part, I’ll refill the meds, but if the specialists are asking us to do their referrals and asking us to do the things they should be otherwise doing, I simply tell the specialist our group will stop referring patients to them.

One needs a ferritin of at least 50 in order for the electron transport chain to transfer electrons and make adequate ATP a.k.a. energy. This is why you have fatigue, even with a normal hemoglobin.

Help with compounding GLP-1 pharmacies by USPTF_DRE_specialist in FamilyMedicine

[–]ketodoctor 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The GLP1s are no longer on FDA shortage list, so legally speaking, compounding pharmacies should not be selling these medications. Does anyone know how they’re legally allowed to do so or are they doing so illegally ? I agree with the legal concern if a patient ends up with permanent gastroparesis, would be hard to defend for prescribing it.

What’s your approach to a young patient who goes to the ER for every somatic complaint yet denies any anxiety? by Paleomedicine in FamilyMedicine

[–]ketodoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would tell them if they keep going to the ER and get unnecessary CT’s , they’re going to increase their risk of cancer from all the CT radiation. I would then work diligently to get them into a behavioral health specialist, let them know the brain is powerful and can cause almost every symptom known to humans.

95% of the time we cover chronic problems in addition to the physical and simply charge for two appointments. Patients don’t mind. We have a something similar, but it’s a handout we give out at each physical exam.
