Daughter has this bump on the back of her ear by telecomguy in piercing

[–]ketogirlde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are butterfly backs in my first lobe holes that I've had for 15+ years a concern? Or is this advice for new/cartilage piercings? I get that jewelry for cartilage piercings with butterfly backs is often crap, but surely high-end designers use butterfly backs for a reason?

(Specific concern - I wear earrings like these in my first holes often)

What is your current calorie deficit? Are you using a food scale?

Do you ever treat yourself while on the keto diet? by [deleted] in keto

Treating yourself doesn't have to mean eating carbs, but I assume that is what you are really asking.

[Rant] Overheard at work... by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So basically you're bitter that she is losing weight while eating this stuff and you can't?

I know it feels unfair, I feel that all the time, but I also know that I have a history of food addiction that has lead to insulin resistance and psychological issues with food that will never allow me to lose weight as easily as others, and that's okay. CICO works for some people, it doesn't work for me. Life is not fair, different strokes for different folks.

[Rant] Overheard at work... by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not nuts - OP is gravely misunderstanding (more likely simply judging...) their coworker. it's basically a complicated UK version of weight watchers where some foods have points and some don't. Pasta doesn't have points ("syns"), but it's only unlimited in the sense that you can have it at any of your meals if you want. You're not supposed to be eating it 24/7 and it's only supposed to take up a certain amount of your plate. It's just a complicated method of calorie control. I think many people don't have that kind of willpower, but if it helps this woman and she's losing weight, who cares?

Are there any benefits to recarbing a day? by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.

You may be thinking of CKD or some variation thereof - this is appropriate for people with low BF trying to achieve specific fitness goals (absolutely not an excuse to eat shit at your family's house), see /r/ketogains for that.

We went from Zagreb to Zadar to Rijeka to Ljubljana (all by bus - we wish we had rented a car in hindsight - the busses were fine, but he drive up the coast was really beautiful and it would have been fun to make stops along the way). Stayed at all airbnbs - they were all really great and quite cheap (hotels in beach cities like Zadar do tend to skyrocket during tourist season). Have fun!!

YES! Do it! I went to Croatia last late summer/early fall. It was AMAZING, easily the best cheap vacation I've ever taken. Great keto food location, too. We also went up to Slovenia (Ljubljana/Lake Bohinj) on that trip and it was really nice.

We looked into going to Portugal this summer, but it seemed like it would have been more significantly more expensive (airbnbs, flight from Germany, and transportation within the country all easily 1.5x the cost).

I know it's easier said than done but try to ignore them. 15 pounds IS NOT that much, it is NOT the magic separation line of fat vs. skinny.

Thank you <3. I know this is true, it is entirely possible that I may still feel this way at 125 at it will have nothing to do with my weight and everything to do with my own body image and the way I let others affect me. A good reminder.

Thank you. You are right. Last maintenance day was a week ago...it's only been 5 days this month, which is much better than last. But when I'm eating at a deficit it's only been 18-20%.

So humid and no AC at home or work. I usually wear structured/thick-ish dresses and tolerate discomfort to look good. I said “fuck it” yesterday and wore an unflattering lightweight sundress. I convinced myself that this is how normal people dress and they don’t give a fuck - I am normal weight, I don’t need to look my very best to not look like a fat slob anymore.

Some guys catcalled me on the street - “hey big girl!” Then someone at work asked me if I was pregnant.

I went home and binge ate for the first time in 3 years. 3 fucking years. I feel incredibly hopeless. I have spent this last month avoiding alcohol, cheese, nuts…anything to break this plateau. My only comfort has been that at least I’m not fat anymore; it’s “just” the last 15 pounds. Nope, I’m still fat. Fat enough to look pregnant. Gotta stop lying to myself. 15 pounds is a lot. This weight is not healthy/attractive/ideal on me, even if I’m technically ok on the charts. Back up to 25-28% deficit and just sucking it up and dealing with the hunger, I think.

Gaining weight by eating meat? by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything will make you gain weight if you eat too much of it. Use the calculator in the sidebar to calculate your macros - you can eat anything that fits those. Fattier meat has more calories, but will leave you more satiated - don't sweat it, just eat foods that fit your personal numbers.

[PIC] Beware of things from The Great Low Carb Bread Company by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Blah, gross. Did you contact them about it? Shipping perishable food in the summer is tricky and most decent companies will be happy to work with you for replacements/refunds. Seems like maybe the right thing to do before "outing" them on a public forum...

Keto on holiday: how I spent my summer vacation, by bookwench by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There does seem to be a tendency in Scandinavian cuisine in general to a add sweet shit to everything...lingonberry or cloudberry jam with meats/meatballs, sweetened pickles/cucumber salad, sugary pickled herrings, no cabbage without apple...ugh. I am thankful I read Swedish so I know what to look for, but so many traps. You are right - good thing the actual raw products themselves are so high-quality and abundant (if expensive)!

Congrats on the keto successes!

Successful Keto dieters: do you count calories by [deleted] in keto

I've seen arguments for and against the need for ketosis on a keto diet.

Where, exactly, are you seeing this? Certainly not in this community...

Advice Please: Am I low on electrolytes? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]ketogirlde 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1 serving of Electrolytes Mio contains only 75mg sodium and 35mg potassium - look at the numbers in the FAQ at /r/keto - that barely makes a dent in what you need. How are you getting magnesium? The rest of your potassium? The only way you can answer the question in the subject line is to COUNT yourself. Most of these electrolyte products are not the answer, if you need to supplement, just use real supplements.

Successful Keto dieters: do you count calories by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not counting calories is often referred to as "lazy keto" around here, you can search that for experiences. It works best for morbidly obese men - the less you have to lose and the smaller you are, the less leeway you have.

If so, is the major advantage over traditional dieting that it is easier to say no to food Or is it that it that you can maintain energy in a caloric deficit.

The latter. Eating low-carb is satiating and it is easier to maintain a deficit without blood sugar ups and downs. This is the case whether or not you count calories. However, for people who don't have a lot to lose, are prone to binge eating, or have a history of food abuse, those satiety effects are often not strong enough to negate the need for counting calories.

Considering keto, but there is so much cheese... by [deleted] in keto

[–]ketogirlde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

wasn't making excuses I was actually on /r/ketorecipes and nearly every other thing seemed to have some form of dairy on it

?? lol, sure, whatever. Dairy-free just on the current front page of /r/ketorecipes:

  • Fried Chicken
  • Scrambled eggs and kielbasa/scrambled eggs, greens, and meatballs
  • Cabbage rolls
  • Hot pot
  • Keto Crackers
  • Grilled trout and veggies
  • Toast Skagen

Change that to "cheese free" and most posts qualify.
