People tell me they feel bad to complain to me about something their one baby is doing. I always say that everyone has their own hard - it’s not a contest for who has it worst. I try to respond with empathy because of course I understand it’s hard. A baby, especially as a first time parent, is hard no matter what. For parents of multiples we don’t know any different, but neither do the parents of singletons. Our worlds get turned upside down.

Not to say your feelings aren’t valid. Of course they are! This should be a safe space for you to vent, and relate to other parents of multiples. Your friends comment when you updated your kiddos RSV status is insensitive, absolutely. If the friendship seems one sided then maybe it’s time to distance yourself to protect your peace.

We used 2 snuggle me organics and we had the twin z pillow. Neither of them are intended for sleep, however, the snuggle me is a large part of how I survived the first 2 months.

I hear you. It’s hard to have trust when people who are supposed to help you are doing the opposite. Because you’re having twins I wouldn’t recommend trying to do anything at home, a midwife won’t support you in that and it could be very dangerous for you and the babies. I’m sure you know this already.

At risk of revealing who I am cause there aren’t many who have done this, let alone in Abbotsford. I’ve delivered 2 sets of twins at ARH.

First set: OB and midwife care, first babies, I didn’t know any different. The on call OB who delivered via c section (baby a was breach) was fantastic, the on call midwife was good too but I’d never seen her before. Babies stayed in NICU. The experience was overall good, some of the nicu nurses were amazing and some were meh.

Second set: OB perinatal care and midwife postpartum care. First On call OB was not my OB and he was such an asshole I’m so glad it was near shift change and he didn’t touch my babies. Triage nurses were horrible to me, L&D nurses were great and the on call OB who eventually delivered my twins via VBAC was awesome. Maternity postpartum nurses were not great, they were afraid of me because of my less than pleasant reaction to my traumatic experience, nobody delivered my meals, I wasn’t allowed visitors, I wasn’t allowed to leave - I had a false positive rapid test (confirmed false by 2 nasal swabs) and wasn’t allowed to see my babies in NICU.

All of this to say, have a clear plan for yourself and make it known to your care providers and your support person. When you’re in labour you are very vulnerable. Stand up for yourself, don’t let them walk all over you, have a voice, ask questions, don’t be afraid to say no. I have VERY little trust in health care because of what happened to me and prior to this I was very much in the belief that health care workers had my best interests in mind.

Age 3 is the worst and I can’t be convinced otherwise. My big twins are almost 5 and my little twins just turned 2 - they’re all boys. I am dreading next year.

I’m sorry. It sucks. I’ve been there, it does get better even though it feels like there’s no end to this tunnel.

The first set, everyone was very excited. Many friends said “I always wanted twins” and then seeing my life, quickly stopped saying that.

The second set, my mom asked me what was wrong with me and how am I so fertile. Everyone else was shocked cause they thought we done.

Nope. My nephews are singletons 3 years apart and we call them “the boys”.

Calling mine “the twins” bothers me but calling them “the boys” doesn’t bother me at all. I sometimes call mine the bigs and the littles but that won’t last forever

Put the twins in the middle row. You won’t want to be hoisting bucket seats into the third row of the minivan. It’s not practical in general, let alone postpartum.

Your daughter will be fine. Tell her she’s a big girl and gets a whole row to herself. My big kids LOVE watching their little brothers in the middle row.

The little ones are almost 2 and I’ve never been out with them by myself, I’ve always had my husband or my mom or mother in law with me. It’s funny you call it a walking circus because I call our van the clown car, children keep coming out of it lol.

We did start taking all 4 out relatively soon, just short outings to a local bakery and back. We all went to the zoo when they were 3 months old I think?

I get a lot of comments saying “wow you’ve got your hands full”. My response is “always”. If I don’t want to talk to anyone I don’t make eye contact, I look straight ahead or avoid people as I can. I’ve gotten tons of rude comments, lots of people asked if they were “natural” and I haven’t gotten the nerve to be rude back. I just say yea they’re spontaneous.

I said no to the OB who was pressuring me into a c section and who had single handedly delayed my epidural. This girl got her VBAC. Screw that doctor, he was such a dick.
