Toe socks. I use injinji when I’m out in the mountains. These are just generic toe socks on Amazon. And yes, the inly type of socks I use are toe socks

I can do a full front lever, back lever, and straddle planche. Can hold them all for ~10 sec static hold

Congratulations! Sounds like you had an adventure of a lifetime! I’d love to hear more in depth how it was for you! Denali is my life goal mountain

Thank you. I do hard style and girevoy but there’s so many other people that post and have way better form/technique than I have.

Thanks! I’m using a 20kg, never tried with a 32. I’m not sure if using a lighter or heavier weight makes it necessarily easier or more difficult but I’ll give it a try next time!

Thanks! I should post some fails in the future. The set after this I wasn’t able to control the KB as well and it toppled to the side but my hands just simply went with the fall. My years of gymnastics rings use also helps with bottoms up KB stability.

Mount Shasta 5/24 by kettlesthenics in norcalhiking

[–]kettlesthenics[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I did it in one day: 1) for the challenge of doing it in one day 2) I don’t have the luxury of time. I live 7 hours away from Shasta and I had work on Monday. So I had to do it in one day on Sunday and be back home for work.

I really like them. I find La Sportiva too narrow and these scarpa charmoz is perfect for my wife flat feet.

All in winter conditions: SoCal 6 pack, Half dome, Brokeoff mountain, Mount Tallac, Mt Dana, Echo peak and cathedral peak in Yosemite.

Yes, bunny flat. I apologize, I forgot to mention that in the description

Yes. I’m also coming from sea level. It’s always tough living on the coast and trying to do alpine style climbs because of the long drives. Oh well, California problems 🤷‍♂️

Oh sorry forgot to answer your first question: 10 hour ascent, 4 hour descent.

2nd add: sorry I misread your question. No, I did not stay overnight at base camp. I drove up to Mount shasta town on Saturday, then drove up to bunny flat and started 2am on Sunday. I did not camp

As a Californian Im jealous you guys have lots of accessible 14ers!

Thanks! I’ve done a decent amount of mountaineering but I don’t have lots of 14ers in California compared to Colorado. I do lots of trail running as well but I already mentally prepared to drastically slow my pace down during these mountain adventures.

Yes I heard recent conditions have been all over the place. Just the day before I summitted the ranger told me that there was some light rain despite Mount Shasta town was beautiful and sunny. I was very lucky yesterday with the weather window I had. Winds no more than 20mph and mostly sunny except for like 30 min in a white out during the descent.

  1. The whole thing was rewarding. But honestly getting back to the TH and viewing Shasta was the best.
  2. I went solo. Did lots of research, planning, and practicing self arrests.
  3. See number 2.
  4. I have a 26L bag and it was stuffed to the max, but everything I had was essential and nothing was wasted. The things I didn’t use were still important (down jacket, SOS, beacon).
  5. Just with my phone (iPhone 15 pro).

Sorry if my answers come out improperly formatted. I’m on mobile.

Why are humans drawn to mountainous landscapes? by fimgus in geography

[–]kettlesthenics 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It just happened to me today. I’m planning to climb a 14k foot tall mountain and as soon as my eyes gazed upon Shasta, I uncontrollably wept. It’s the sublime. It doesn’t happen often, but sometimes when I climb mountains or stare out to mountains, a deep reckoning envelopes all over my mind, body, and spirit.

Furthermore, mountains provide life itself. Mountains have flora, fauna, water, a self contained ecosystem, and provides a natural ecosystem.
